The only problem is that for those selling, what will the cost be to buy back in if they want another SS or ZL1 in the future? The money I could get to sell my cars is tempting. But I got my ZL1 for around $70K OTD, my HC for around $73K OTD...how much would a comparably optioned new HC or ZL1 cost me if I wanted back in? And if I went used then would I be spending what I spent 5 years ago on a brand new one?

Hopefully by the time I'm looking for another dual purpose car the world has returned to Pre-Covid/WWIII times/prices or it will just be the end of the world...

The highest stock GT500 1/4 glory mph I've seen is 136 and a 10.2 ET with a 1.6 60ft(definitely not typical) on a very well prepped track and low DA The 136mph run was a different vid I haven't run mine on a prepped track. I've found best launches on the street is launch control set at 2200 rpm, as any higher it excessively bogs. BTW $1200 over MSRP is an insane deal for a new or used current GT500, especially these days!! Maybe a hard sell in the middle of winter and Alabama. Whatever the case, great for you! You could turn around and sell it for a lot more - not saying you'd want to. I bought mine (base with every option) for just under $5k over msrp late 2020 and that was considered a great price at the time.

Overall, my ZL1 A10 was the better car. The GT500 is a whole lot of fun and super capable. It's not a friendly daily driver in town and it continues to scare me on a regular basis. No regrets at all - I learn something new every time I drive it and it's fun no matter where I drive. |

1.6-1.7 60ft on prepped track is the lowest I've seen. I know this is a Camaro forum, but curious why you feel the ZL1 a10 is the better car specifically? Other than maybe similar interior quality, being easier to drive around town (with the higher low-end torque and torque converter auto), and similar handling capability; I've found the GT500 to be clearly superior from every other aspect (especially WOT acceleration, braking, sound, DCT/trans characteristics, fun factor) with my experience between the two. Its all subjective of course and to be clear, I'm actually more of a camaro/GM fan than a mustang fan. I will also say it takes several month to really get this car and all of it's the nuances. A little over a year of ownership and love it more than ever.

I've had my ZL1 for 5 years now. So the novelty has worn off. But I can say that comparing it to my Hellcat, there has never been a time where I thought the HC was superior to the ZL1. Of course it is more practical and if I had to choose one or the other then the HC would be it. But I just think that the ZL1 is a much better car for sure. The GT500 will be the next great thing for me. And same as the HC, I think the GT500 will be a better car as far as something to live with every day (roominess etc)...but I do not have my hopes up that it will wow me or give me that same feeling I had when I got my ZL1. I'll for sure see in a couple weeks and a couple days. |

It is absolutely crazy for me to think (and I get it - they can turn) that a Tesla will smoke them with zero effort.
Times are a changing.

It's not just the straight line acceleration, it's the DCT characteristics and responsiveness, power delivery and brakes, the brakes are amazing. Its the first car I've owned that I didn't feel the need to mod and I've owned A LOT of cars lol. I cant speak for you of course, as we all have our own opinions and perspectives. You also currently own a modded ZL1 so there's that. As far as the GT500 being a better daily driver, it is a lot roomier and easier to see out of; but, not optimal or advised to operate in inclimate weather with the summer tires it comes with. There aren't many all-season tire options and I don't know of any available winter tires. It also has a small gas tank combined with 12 MPG avg is quite inconvenient, especially with gas prices these days. I fill up and says my projected range is 175 miles But hey its about smiles per gallon The DCT is amazing but not the best in traffic, it can slip the clutch creeping in traffic or up hills under 5 mph, so you need to be mindful of that.

Are you guys talking about brake pedal feel? Seems the camaro bests it in terms of 60-0 mph. Or does it feel like it stops quicker? Interested as a few have said the same thing regarding them.

My projected range is between 350 and 400 miles after long highway drives, otherwise I don't even check the gauge , but having a 19-gallon tank sure helps.

You’d have to drive one to see what I’m talking about. My ZL1 had very good and competent brakes but not particularly impressive imo. Motor Trend I think: “The Shelby GT500 delivers quick acceleration and braking, with a 0 – 100 – 0 mph time of only 10.6 seconds. The quick braking can be credited to the 16.5-inch front brake rotors, which are the largest front brakes for any sports coupe in the United States.” Quote:
To answer your question, the gt500 has a similar “perfect” feel to them as you described. The carbon fiber track pack gt500 has shorter stopping distances than the base because of the stickier tires and lighter wheels. There is someone on the gt500 forum that regularly road races his gt500 had his gas light come on after filling up his tank
