That would be incredible - I have 5 close friends with that engine in their 1500s, and they all love it.

Please give us the 2.7 HO in the next generation midsize. I have a feeling they're going to detune it or neuter it somehow. Also, when the heck are we going to see the twins already?

There’s also a 2.0D version built in S. Korea that would work well in the twins. I would not be surprised if that is in the consideration set. 2.7D might be seen as “too much hammer”.

Which engine is that? I'm assuming you are referring to diesels here.

Yes. 2.0D and 2.7D where D=diesel. Both are based on GM’s CCS platform. Different bore sizes. Just like 2.0T and 2.7T (T=turbo) are on CCS platform with different bore sizes. The 2.0D (RPO LSQ) is good for 170 hp/280 lb-ft. Compared to the LWN 2.8D (181/369) and the L3B 2.7D (310/420). If the twins are slimmed down at all, the 2.0D LSQ could be a nice package that would not overlap with the L3B application in Silverado / Sierra.

Why do you believe a diesel is in play at all?

The 2.8D was profitable so this one would also likely be profitable. The engine already exists in a similar architecture. It’s also the same design and platform of the gasoline engines already in the vehicle, so integration is relatively simple. It helps with Truck CAFE. I’m not saying it’s a slam dunk, but it can pencil.

It’s about friggin’ time. When GM was working on a Buick variant of the Volt I was saying then that it should be called Electra. They went with Velite (Ve-what?).

yeeaasss...we want the Powar!!!! I've read about lots of happy people with the 2.7 in the full size, and that's on the current power levels. It has got to be great in the mid-size trucks.

I'm still worried we'll get the current version though, or they'll reserve the H.O. version for the ZR2. Maybe GM will actually do something fun and let customers pay for the H.O. tune for the regular versions...yah know...like Ford does.

My fingers are crossed for at least the new Colorado being revealed by end of March. GMC equivalent is always later.

I don't see this happening. They are going on an updated version of the current platform, so I don't expect it to grow much either, if at all. That said, I am hoping they can squeak out an extra inch or two of cab room...hopefully in the rear seats. Looking at the abundance of camo'd photos of the new twins, they look to be just as big to me. Lot's of people like to complain and say the mid-sizers are too big, but have you seen the full size trucks lately lol. The mid-size trucks being about the size of a FS from 20 years ago works great for me.

I think they're a good size right now.

I also think it leaves room for a smaller truck a la Maverick.

I would love to see GM come out with a Maverick-like truck.
