HID to LED conversion

Hey guys I have a question, I was wondering if anyone ever did a conversion to their Camaro from HID to LED. I have a 2016 Camaro 2LT with HID and I'm looking for some brighter headlights. If anyone has any input on some LED that work with no error messages, it would be much appreciated.

I thought I read somewhere just upgrade to the 55watt HID would be as bright as any LED. I know the HIDs do lose brightness as they age. Do some searching on the topic. I know people have swapped from Halogens to LEDs, I did that on my Caddy years ago. Beware there are some cheap LEDs on the market.

That would be a step bacward. HID is brighter than LED.

Disagree. I’ve had multiple cars with HID headlights and 2 with LED and it’s not close, the LED headlights are awesome.

I’ve seen these LED headlights available, not sure if anyone has tried them?

^Agree...LED is now all I buy when I swap headlights. The set I installed in my Acadia are really good. That being said I haven't messed with my SS yet because I always thought they were pretty good from the factory.

While I have not messed with my Camaro in every other vehicle I have own in the past 10 years I have switched out to a good projector setup and 55w HIDs.

With HIDs you really need to use a good projector. With a good projector and quality 55w HIDs, they will out perform any LEDs.

All understandable, I just dread the time when all oncoming vehicles will have LEDs that are completely blinding, even from the factory... It's bad enough already with trucks taking my vision captive for several seconds.

Rebuild my stock HID to LED with new lens after 2 years. HID become much less brighter after 2-3 years
of operation. Now my front lights are badass, super bright, i like it.

You could upgrade the bulbs first before going through the hassle of switching to LED.. Try the Osram Night Breaker bulbs.

Would something like this work as replacements for stock 2017 2SS HID camaro lights? Had one of my stock HID bulbs go back in 2020…replaced both with Morimoto pair from Amazon, but one now failed again….was looking for a bright replacement, and it looks like something like this would still be plug and play

One of its recent five-star reviews is from a Camaro, so either D3S version (silver or black) probably works fine. Longevity remains to be seen, as always.

Thanks..yeah, I saw the short video he did with his ZL1….I ordered the silver D3S (which the only thing I could tell different are the silver are 6500k vs the black being 6000k) and they should arrive tomorrow…will see how they are and post some pics. I worry that longevity will be an issue with these as the built in fans will probably not cool enough over time…but they were cheap enough to try out
