To form such a thick blank we require special equipment capable of 10,000 metric tons of pressure. This extreme pressure increases the strength of the aluminum by eliminating porosity and improving the grain structure. True Motorsport Blanks One of the most significant upgrades to our Sprint wheels is the addition of wider and deeper side-milled spokes. Any excess material that doesn’t add strength is carved out using a precision CNC ball cutter. Side-milling is often deemed cost-prohibitive by others, but for true performance without compromise we believe it's essential.Many companies use 3rd-party blanks intended for non-motorsport wheels which can severely limit sizes, concavity, spoke design, and critical brake clearance. We designed our very own blank profiles from scratch which gives us total control over the final product, resulting in exceptionally deep spokes and stronger designs. Learn more our true motorsport blanks. Side-milled Spokes A Stronger Lightweight Wheel Our forged Sprint™ wheels are lightweight without the strength compromises found on typical lightweight wheels. First, we carved out as much material as possible, then we purposefully added one pound back to reinforce critical areas, creating a stronger inner lip and a higher load rating.¹ What’s the point of a lightweight wheel if it’s fragile? Weight Optimized We conducted extensive Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to reinforce high-stress areas and to remove material where it didn’t improve strength. The result is a wheel that is exceptionally light without the strength compromises found on typical lightweight wheels. Independently Tested We don't rely solely on computer simulations or unverifiable in-house testing. We believe independent testing is critical to protect consumers in this unregulated industry. We chose STL, an independent lab in Ohio, to test our Sprint™ wheels far above JWL standards, including increases in testing duration, impact drop height, and total load. Big Brake Clearance From day one, APEX has been on a mission to build wheels that clear big brakes. Our new forged wheels are the product of everything we’ve developed over the past 10+ years, including an innovative high-clearance barrel design and vehicle-specific spoke profiles. Deeper Concavity Our new forgings were redesigned to create extra deep, concave spoke profiles. Their new shape allows us to make any profile, from flat to deep and everything in between. Each one is optimized for a specific application using 3D laser scans of factory and aftermarket brake kits. Paintless Knurled Beads Whether it's a day at the track or months of street driving, repeated hard braking and acceleration can make a tire slip along the bead seat and go out of balance, causing vibration. Knurled beads help, but are less effective when painted over. Our forged line features unpainted knurled beads that stay sharp and maximize grip. Don’t settle for wheels that require undersized tuner lugs or thin walled sockets. All APEX wheels accommodate over-sized race lugs and impact sockets to make swapping wheels lightning fast. Laser-Engraved Specs As track enthusiasts ourselves, we know how frustrating it is to try to locate and decipher wheel specs that have been hastily hammered into the rim or become unreadable over time. With our new Sprint™ wheels, we chose to invest a little extra and laser-engrave the specs on the barrel, in plain sight, making them easy to find and read. (You’re welcome.) Additional Features Hub Centric - All APEX wheels with a 5x120mm bolt pattern are purpose built featuring a 67.1mm center bore. No centering rings required. Center Caps - We don't charge extra for caps and we design our wheels to be interchangeable with the OE roundel cap for enthusiasts seeking a clean factory look. All wheels come with our gloss Black APEX caps included. We also offer optional gloss red or gloss blue APEX caps. As we kick off the last four weeks of this Group Buy, we wanted to touch base to let you know that our first wave of production is right on schedule. This means we are currently on track to fulfill your orders in the timeframe outlined on the fitment table under the overview tab. Things could always change, but everything is looking better than expected currently.
As a reminder, if you have only expressed interest and have not pledged, you're not officially a part of the deal to receive wheels. With nearly 400 members interested, some popular fitments and finishes will sell out in the first production run. We’ve already placed a restock order and it should be here pretty quickly, but we have not decided if we will cancel backorders or if we will allow late participants to get the discount and receive wheels from the second shipment. Technical Note As a group of track enthusiasts and racers, we understand how frustrating it can be to bend a wheel in pursuit of a PB or podium finish. Whether you find yourself 4 wheels off track on a safari excursion or creating your own driving line jumping treacherous berms, wheels are put through a tremendous amount of stress and abuse in the process – sometimes simply being forged isn’t enough to avoid bends. To mitigate this, our engineers made a concerted effort to reinforce the inner lip of these motorsport wheels and created our stronger, Sprint™ Spec inner lip design. When Function Meets Form As wheel specialists we understand that, when it comes to reducing weight and increasing stiffness in wheel spokes, there is a big difference between functional and aesthetic side milling. Instead of milling a few negligible millimeters of depth just to look cool, our engineers optimized our new motorsport blanks to create narrower yet significantly deeper spokes, with deeper side milling that is nearly 50mm wide on some wheels. Get To Know Our 50% Replacement Program
Let’s face it: Whether you are a weekend warrior practicing at the track, or a club racer pushing the limit for a podium finish, mistakes happen, and parts can get damaged along the way. We are not really a performance company if we sell wheels in a way that penalizes the pursuit of driving at the limit. For this reason, we stepped up and created a program to significantly reduce the costs of properly maintaining a set of wheels by making replacements extremely affordable. Our goal was to make replacing a damaged wheel with a brand-new one much more appealing than ignoring the problem or performing any questionable and compromising repairs. This program will also help keep damaged wheels from being passed on to unsuspecting enthusiasts via the secondhand market. Discounted replacements are ideal for customers who accidentally damage their wheels with curb rash, bends or dings from potholes, berms, road debris, and off-track excursions. Complete destruction of a wheel from serious accidents also qualify, including tire wall or barrier impacts, contact with other racers, or any accidents resulting in a total loss. Production Update
Batch 1: The first batch of wheels is arriving at our warehouse in the first week of January. We are on track to fulfill these wheels in January as planned. We will continue to notify everyone once orders begin to ship out. Batch 2: Production is being buttoned up, and we are on track to ship orders out in March without delay. We do not expect any delays at this time and will update everyone once production is completed. Reorder Production: Due to the success of this deal, we are already producing additional wheels to arrive a few weeks after the 2nd batch.
