Continental extreme contact all seasons on an SS

A general question: does running all season tires on an SS compromise traction on a hard acceleration? The stock summer only tires on my SS hook pretty well, but I need to switch to all seasons for the upcoming winter. Will traction suffer on dry roads with the all seasons under fairly hard acceleration? ( I don’t think I’d ever try hard acceleration with all seasons)

In particular, anyone running Continental extreme contact all seasons? If so, do you like them? Any other all season recommendations? It’s my first winter with my new SS so any recommendations would be appreciated.

The DWS06 (and the newest DWS06+) are quite popular and of course there's a traction give up over a summer to gain winter capability, you can def break them loose easier but tires in that Ultra A/S category are quite good in a lot of ways.

I've had them since the fall of 2017 and I love them. You will give up some traction but I don't mind because I want to drive my car in all weather.

I had the General AS-05. Traction is an issue if you're doing hard launches. Otherwise, the tires put the power down pretty well.

What the others have said. You’ll just have to get used to them on under what conditions they’ll break loose. They’ve been satisfactory.

Thanks for the comments. I figured I’d be giving up some traction, but I’ve got to drive the car all year. From the little I’ve read, the Camaro seems to do ok in the winter. I guess the snow/ice mode works pretty well.

I used snow/ice mode into the mountains too ski in a snowstorm and around DC for the snow, it definitely works - still need to be wary of sudden changes and braking is well always an issue in the ice.

from what I can tell, it just babies the throttle map. I use it. With it off it is pretty easy to break traction with a manual in the snow.

You can moderate traction on snow/ice with a 2d gear start (assumed manual tranny)

The DWS06 are great in the wet and dry. Had these tires and I was pleased with their performance.

The only neg that I've heard in the past was the sidewall is soft, doesn't handle all that well when pushed.

This is very true. I am running stock sizes on my SS. I bumped the PSI to 38 on each corner and it helped. I was experiencing some squishy feelings when accelerating, and when cornering hard. Playing with the pressure has helped, and allowed me to get caught in the rain if I had to...and not get too sketchy.

So far, I am impressed with the tires overall. They don't mind wet roads, but watch out for puddles. It will grab the steering wheel out of your hand.

Instead of ditching your good-performing summer tires, you could buy a second set of wheels and tires just for winter. For example, there's a guy in our Classifieds section selling a mounted and balanced set of Blizzaks on nice wheels with TPMS, ready to go for a nice price. He's in Wilkes-Barre, so not far from you. That whole setup is probably as cheap or cheaper than a set of Conti DWS tires, and then you get to mount your sticky tires back on the car in the spring.
