Thoughts on California Duster?
Ok, so I live in SoCal and my car never gets driven in the rain, it usually just gets a light coating of dust from a drive or from sitting in the garage, the car looks clean unless the sun hits it at the right angle to see the coating of very fine dust...
It is safe to lightly go over it with a California Duster to clean this or should I do a full 2 bucket wash as I usually do? The car is ceramic coated... I just don't want to create an fine scratches, etc...

I used one one on a prior car and it caused micro swirl scratches. Stopped using it and threw it out. In fairness it was a black car and it was very difficult to keep scratch free.

The darker the color the more you will see the swirls with a duster. I learned this by personal experience when I built show cars (tri five Chevys) and then four Corvettes. I also saw plenty of evidence of this at car shows.
Even using a microfiber and detailing spray will leave minor swirls. Best to use a good automotive wash and either blow dry or use water absorbing waffle type towels.

Thanks guys!
Guess it's back to the 2 bucket wash! It's a shame, because the car looks clean (until the sun hits it at certain angles, then you see the very, very fine layer of dust)...

I used one a long time ago and like others have said, it makes micro scratches. On a red car it wasn't so bad. My camaro now is black but been ceramic coated. I just use a quick detail spray and microfiber and its fine.

Is Adam's Detailing spray enough of a lubricant to get light, fine dust off without scratching?

This. I get the same dust. I have a spray polish and microfiber cloth. Gets the dust off in no time.

I use chemical guys but same difference. I just spray it down and wipe it off, then go back with a different micro fiber towel and make sure it all got picked up. The first pass you are just using light pressure to pick up the dust. 2nd towel is to get any of the detail spray off. |
