my exact parts list for my upcoming build

gpi drop in rods and pistons
johnson 2126 lifters
btr .650 lift ultimate rpm spring kit
stock 5.3 head gaskets
arp head studs reuse from my 6.2
not sure who reused vvt lock from my 6.2
oil pump and timing chain reuse from low mile my 6.2
cam reuse from my 6.2 230/238 .635/.635 116 lsa +2
3/8" pushrods haven't ordered them yet, need exact length
btr trunion upgrade kit

i am not 100% sure on the cam reuse and am no cam expert. if it is a poor choice i may get a new cam.

That is a fairly large cam for a 5.3. I would probably settle for something in the224- 226 range on the intake side but that just depends on how much you drive the car. If it's track only then send it.

Yeah that’s pretty stout. Who’s is it?

Lil’ John is pretty good with 5.3 turbo valve curtain needs if you’ve never dealt with him.

Honestly, I would like to see you run a conservative solid.

that is a patric g spec'd cam that was in my 6.2. i was happy with it in there.

i dont want something that is too hard to tune. idle, off idle stuff. it was easy enough to tune on a 6.2 but might be difficult on a 5.3. it might be amazing and pull to 7500 too. i will probably give it a shot.

In my experience solids are easier tune in everything from carb’d to FI, & handle RPM better.

hmm, aren't there lots of guys going crazy fast with 5.3's,moon boost, high rpms with hydraulic lifters.

edit: i just emailed pat g. he thinks it will be ok and love some rpms. i bet it does great up top. just a little worried about drive ability. it is not a daily but i do enjoy driving it. drove it to and from the track last night.

Of course there are. For me back in the late 90’s I got to spend some time with Myron Cotrell while I was a shop rat & he introduced me to what it’s like when you get valve train events under control. It’s eye-opening the responsiveness of a solid roller.

I bet it will love RPM. That LSA tames the duration down quite a bit. It’s going to have some lope for sure. Probably down right mean as hell.

What converter do you have? Must be an awesome feeling holding 4K and 8psi on the line. Man you are really throwing a wrench in my original plans here with this 5.3.

It is a circle d. They probably have the exact specs on file if you wanted to copy it. It would be under Jim Neuenfeldt.

I am not going to lie. I am thrilled with how this is working and pumped to see what else it can do with a few parts. Since last year I have gone up in turbo size and exhaust housing and dropped displacement and it still spools quickly. It also isn’t overly loose where it just pushes through to 6000rpm and sits there. I have 1800hp worth of turbo on this thing and it still spools quickly. I even have full exhaust.

I hope the big cam doesn’t some how slow stuff down and make it difficult to build boost off the line. I dream or a .1 drop in the 60’ and then ramping in another 10-15psi or boost. Woohoo.

I do have a 2 step with the ability to pull timing and add fuel. Currently I don’t add fuel but I am pulling timing back to -2 deg.

I planed in tearing into it by now but I am going to the track one more time with the stock 5.3 and try for a glory run. It is going to be something like 40deg so it may run hard or just spin.

I can pull a few lbs. add about 40hp, try some stuff to drop my 60’.

Last trip to the track with a stock 5.3. I will have to look at logs. The boost was up there. 17psi I think. Launching at full boost

Man thats a dam good pass for a 5.3. Very impressive, my 6.05@116 was a 9.41@146 so you are banging on the 9.40 door with 50 less cubes then the stock 6.2 and your 5.3 is bone stock? Thats crazy but many love the 5.3 for its ability to handle boost and play with the bigger cubes. Obviously the 5.3 may not put up the mph on the big end but sure does show a lot of grunt in the ET. You may start another trend again. Great job.

Stock cam, springs, lifters, with dod and vvt, stock ring gap.

I think these gen v motors will end up being better then the gen 3/4. It is hard to say if the 17psi is playing with fire or hell they might end up being happy at 30psi. I am surprised I am not floating the valves at all with that much boost.
