BMW still uses a version of the S65 in their racing engines. I was never fond of their turbo six motors. They always had issues.

Absolutely! The engine lacks power and torque by today's standards, but would be so great in a light platform.

They were all prone to it. I had a 2013, and had my RB's swapped at 25K miles and they were not good at all. It is a $2500+ job for sure, worth it for those that want to keep the car. Mine purred like a kitten without any other issues until the day I sold it.

Update

So I finally got on track with the 1LE on Saturday. After a couple sessions I will say this. The track seats in the Shelby are far more supporting than the 1LE. Not that the 1LE is bad, but I did find myself fighting the seatbelt digging into my neck as well as having to brace myself on fast left hand sweepers.

I like the initial bite of the OE pads on the GT350 more but I never once got a soft pedal in either car on track. I have SRF in the Shelby and Motul 600 in the 1LE as I couldn’t find SRF this year.

I like the PTM settings, especially for someone like me that doesn’t get to the track on regular basis.

Both cars are super easy to track and don’t do anything crazy that would catch you off guard.

I do feel you can see more from the driver seat in the Shelby but I don’t recall having any blocked vision with the 1LE. The rear view camera system makes seeing behind you way easier in the 1LE

I really really wish the Shelby had the PDR system.

Here are my thoughts from another thread. Made the switch about three weeks ago with zero regrets.

Well to update everyone I traded in my 18 GT350 for a 2020 SS1LE. I fell in love on the test drive.

My impressions:
Pros of the SS1LE:
Better low end torque.
Gearbox feels slightly more precise.
Camaro feels lighter and more nimble
Steering feel is a more communicative.
Recaro seats are more comfortable in the SS1LE than the Recaro’s in the GT350
You sit lower in the Camaro and I felt more connected to the road
HUD is awesome
I much prefer the size and shape of the SS1LE steering wheel
Active rev match is fun (and yes I can heel and toe)
Love the wheels. Best looking and aggressive wheels I have owned.
Much more affordable

Cons:
Vodoo sounds way better. I definitely need to research exhaust mods but even then Vodoo will be very hard to beat.
I like the Camaro more below 5K RPM and the GT350 more above 5K rpm.
Visibility is better in the GT350
GT350 has more interior space
Brakes on the GT350 have better initial bite.
18 GT350 has softer plastics and more alcantara in the door panels

I feel like I will be faster in the SS1LE on the track. I’m trying to follow break in but this car is so confidence inspiring to drive. Overall I just think the SS1LE is a better fit for me. Just needs better exhaust note!

I feel like the SS 1LE (and probably SS) kind of lull you in to low rpm due to all the torque, but it really comes alive above 4k and it really makes nice noises when you get it up high and close to redline. When you it in track mode, especially in the higher PTM modes, and floor it when the rpm is already up high, man it just takes off. But again, you kind of miss this if you drive around in sport and keep the rpm low.

Based on his You Tube comments: Headers, Xpipe w/o cats and rear stock exhaust.

I am still in break-in mode so not taking it much above 4K rpm, but I am looking forward to it.

I grew up in a world full of big blocks, not four bangers, so I love torque. Never understood the whole fascination with revving a car to the moon all the time. Drive at low rpm, race at high rpm.
Low rpm, low stress, long life. High rpm, high stress, short life.

Someone once said..."Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races."

Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of doing a 6,000 rpm NLS, but I'm not doing that in traffic on the way to the store.
