Let's talk - Why are Muffler Deletes a Good or Bad Idea?

I hear muffler deletes are cheap however they cause a lot of drone at cruising gears/speeds.

I for one cannot stand drones as I am no longer in my 20s. Are aftermarket exhausts the only solution...at a substantial price?

I want the NPP functionality being a family man and in the interest of my neighbors.

Muffler deletes are the most cost effective solution for sound from what I see.
That being said, I also don't want to regret it.

Thoughts?

MBRP Axle Back is essential a muffler delete with J pipes to eliminate drone. However, they will not keep NPP functionality.

The way it reads what really want is a factory NPP...

Anything else is going to be louder, and, not retain that function. I can't think of a touring type axle back with an NPP aspect to it.

Muffler delete in addition to drone is going to be obnoxiously loud especially on cold start up; family man and neighbors.

Beauty is in the ear of the beholder, but pure muffler deletes sound like a continuous raspy dump truck exhaust. There is no tone, just a wall of zero toned noise. Your Camaro deserves better.

A bit more involved but.. The right combo will do the same thing as npp with a muffler delete.

JBA Headers
Custom X Pipe
Mbrp Race

Drone free on the inside. It was almost impossible to tell it had exhaust under normal driving conditions.

My thoughts are that it is a very confusing area of discussion. People are constantly mixing and matching headers, pipes, cats, x pipes, mufflers, etc, in search of a combination that makes them happy.

I saw this on another discussion the other day:

https://www.borla.com/products/camar...t__140726.html

If I were to get an exhaust for my ZL-1, this would be it. Apparently not crazy loud, but with the NPP valves and functionality.

$2,400 is insane for a cat-back exhaust, that adds zero performance. If you're looking for more volume, start with a secondary cat delete and go from there if its not enough.

Actually, it was simply a suggestion / example for the OP. I'm keeping my car stock.

Friend of mine has the muffler deletes on his GEN5 car, and I cant stand how loud it is. Going to leave mine stock. My neighbor has already commented on my current ZL1 as loud at WOT... in his opinion.

my 2010 ss had a muffler delete. I don't recommend it. It got annoying after a while.

Good idea - because axlebacks cost way too much money for what they are
Bad idea - drone

You can buy my old one if you want. https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=558532 I cut my pipes so I could easily bolt the NPP back on with band clamps if I ever wanted to (i never did). Not running it anymore because I bought a Hooker catback (no mufflers) with secondary cat delete.

I have a muffler delete on mine. The drone doesn't bother me that much, but everybody is different. I think the pipes came out to $500

How is your HUD visible during the day? I can't see mine at all during the day unless it's hella overcast. Thought the 70% tint on the windshield would help but it didn't. Sorry to thread jack OP but figured one quick answer wouldn't hurt.

The right-most rocker controls brightness. If you did full tint on the inside, that may be your problem.

Start at 2:50 in this vid:
