I like the Challengers. I have owned a couple and currently the wifes car is a 18 Charger R/T. They are comfortable, pretty fast and have good sounding exhausts from the factory. Excellent and fun daily drivers if thats what you are looking for.

A stock challenger A8 392 is so close in straight line performance to an A8 6th gen SS its not even funny. The extra HP and better trans in the challenger make up for its extra weight.

Like I said if you want a tight package that can hit all the marks for an awesome turn key muscle car experience, its the challenger. Once you get bored with it, understand you will be shopping for hellcats though.

Scstpack, that’s why I suggested him looking at the Hellcat Challenger or a Camaro ZL1!

That's awesome!. I've always loved the looks and styling of the Hellcats and the 392 has all of that and seems to be right on par with similar power as the SS with all the added benefits of being a more practical friends and family / grocery hauler, etc.

For the heck of it I wanted to see what it would do to my current insurance by replacing the SS. OMG freaking Geico wants to increase my policy by another 450+ to replace a Camaro SS with a 392. Why on earth would it cost more to insure a bigger safer 4 door sedan than a 2 door sports car? Geico probably makes it a policy to just always INCREASE premiums no matter what it is.

So something for the OP to consider as well.

You probably should keep your SS then Dysan! Do you have a Procharger or Vortech on your SS? I saw your pic under your user name and wondering!

Oh yeah I plan to keep the SS for a bit while longer. Wife has been after me lately about replacing the SS one day for a more practical every day kind of car. Which the SS Is not. I just have no idea what I would get and then this topic came up.

I do have the Procharger on the SS. Sig below.

Hmm, not really that close from what I've seen on the dragstrip. The 392s are about 4 tenths slower than the SS from what I've seen. Best that I've even seen for Dodge 392s is mid-12s, while my stock Camaro SS ran low-12s, talking same-track observations here of course.

I have a 17 ZL1 and a 18 Daytona 392 Charger as my DD. I know you are looking at the Challenger, but close enough. Now that I have had the Charger for a year, only 2 complaints, you feel the weight of the car and I wish the trans felt better changing gears. Other than that, it is a really nice car and great sound system with the Harmon Kardon in it. Way better than my Camaro. Car runs strong despite the weight.

You sir need to pull the TCM fuse. Because in the mopar world, there are adaptive values for not only the engine, but the trans. Its known to get very lazy if you mostly drive the car like an old woman. If you pull the under hood fuse for the TCM, it resets the adaptives and MAN it shifts like a monster. I would do the fuse pulls at every gas up. Not a big deal. Takes maybe 30 seconds, including opening the hood.

As for the SS vs the 392, there are countless 392 cars on youtube that run 12.0 and 11.9X bone stock on stock tires. Mine ran 12.33@155 in 3000DA on a 90* day. On the drag radial, I went 11.9 in worse weather.

I pay more on my Charger than my ZL1 for same coverage. I was told it is most likely due to more Chargers on the road hence more claims.

I hate to sound uppity, but if funds permit, then do not go any lower than a Hellcat if you're getting a Chally. The 392 were able to beat the SSs in the 5th Gen and the GTs up until 2018. But now they are outmatched. They are fast, but it isn't even a driver's race at this point. The Hellcat tho, that is a different animal indeed. They are selling for very low prices right now, they are very roomy, they are comfortable especially for long trips, they are extremely mind blowingly fast, and simple upgrades like a tune and pulley puts you well over 700 RWHP and for only about $3K. Plus you will feel the weight in a 392. The Hellcat is soo powerful that you won't even notice how heavy the car is. It is simply a no brainer. After owning one, I honestly would not even consider anything less. I'd say shop for a used 17 up if possible. Otherwise a 16 will do just fine as long as the stock blower has been replaced by FCA.

Thanks for the info...I have done the Adapt Reset many times using my Tazer. Not sure if it is doing the same thing or not as pulling the fuse. I have also done a reboot of the system more than once. Maybe i am just spoiled by the quick shifts of the A10 in the Camaro, but under hard acceleration in the Dodge, it just doesn't seem right to me. Maybe i need to drive another car to see if its just something with mine or its normal.
