Post Challenger Surpasses Chevy Camaro in Sales

The Camaro continues to fall behind in the pony car sales numbers. Wake up GM, the 19+ body styling changes made things worse.

Image sells and that car has fantastic image due in part to tv ads and smoky tires shenanigans.

It's featured on popular tv show - NCIS LA.

Track numbers and performance matter to very few people. Most people want the look of performance, some want to back it up, but that is small group.

Sales of the Camaro during the first quarter of 2019 increased 2%, while Challenger and Mustang sales declined significantly. Therefore, it does not appear that the Camaro MCE has "made things worse." Finally, as Camaro enthusiasts, we should be more concerned about profits than sales. For example, if GM discounted Camaro by $5,000 to $10,000 and sales surged to best in segment at the expense of meaningful profits for GM, would the risk of having the Camaro program discontinued be justified for the sake of sheer sales volume? I think not.

Which makes it a bitter pill to swallow. Sales increase (Based on your source) but, still fall to 3rd place!

I hope that Camaro sales continue to rise. However, if GM remains disciplined with incentive spending and future annual sales continue to total approximately 50,000 units, I don't believe the future of the Camaro will be in imminent danger as long as GM is earning a meaningful profit from the program.

actually we don't know how many of the sales were leftover 2018s anyway

the article itself is dumb, because Challenger has been in second for a while now.

Your post makes the assumption that the first quarter represents only 2019 model year cars. We have no idea how many of that 2% increase were deals on left over model years.

Further, while I did not call on this to verify. Was surprised there is still a new 2016 sitting in MN. The window sticker is still accessible at link below. Regardless if this one is still available or not. There were plenty of 2017/18 still on cars.com listed as new.

True. The reality of whether the 2019 MCE has positively or negatively affected sales will be revealed over the coming quarters. I think the haters are going to be surprised.

Don't waste your time or breath. Next quarter these same guys will be screaming doom and gloom all over again because sales is all that matters to them. I have been saying for quite some time now that without data on production costs and what the profits are you cannot assume that one company is doing better off sales alone. But nobody listens.

Ford could sell 100 Mustangs and make $1,000 profit on each of them and GM could sell 50 Camaros and make $10,000 profit on each and these guys will still be talking about how the Camaro is doomed and sales suck. LOL! I give up.
