No V8 Camaros
Hypothetical Scenario
What if the next generation of Camaros no longer support V8. That they have chosen to go the Hybrid/electric V6 route. Would you still support Chevy? or would you go to another car that supports V8?(Mustang, Challenger, etc.) |

If I hear a sound difference then I'll find someone else. I'm hoping they opt for a hybrid V8 setup instead of scrapping it completely.

I can see this thread going like this:
1. Those with the V8 now, will likely not settle for anything less (even if it's faster). 2. Those with the V6 (and completely happy with it) will never understand why the V8 guys think the way we do. I am in the V8 camp, just because every Camaro I've had going back to my first 1969 SS has been a V8. Even though today's V6 has more power than the old V8's, they still will never have that sound. I think as long as Ford or Dodge have a V8, then so will Chevy. Of course sometime in the future, the internal combustion V8 we know today may not be with us. But I don't think Chevy will be the first to do away with it.

Performance should be the motivating factor rather than number of cylinders. There’s lots of ways to get excellent performance out of less than 8 cylinders. The BMW M3 puts out 425 hp with a 3.0. More exotic V6s will do far better, and adding electric assist is a game changer which will probably eventually be mainstream in performance cars.

Also, hybrid do not lend themselves to manual transmission.
If a manual transmission is not offered in a Camaro, it is NOT a Camaro. |

I get that much of this is subjective. As far as sound goes, the size of the cylinders makes a bigger difference than the number. My airplane has a big bore 6 cylinder and sounds nothing like most auto 6s. I wish I could duplicate the sound in a car. Motorcycles with big bore 2 cylinders can sound pretty amazing as well. As far as the feel goes, I’d just as soon have less weight up front all other things being equal.

I can say that I thoroughly enjoy driving my buddy's Carrara S and would take something that has that power that it does just as happily as the Camaro and it's obviously not a V8. In reality, I like the sound of the exhaust and power of both, but can't justify the price tag of the car or the maintenance of the Carrara. So, if they had something that sounded good, handled good, and had a similar punch off the line I would be okay if it wasn't a V8.

I’ve had various cars throughout the years and while I thoroughly enjoyed all of my V8’s, I’m not stubborn enough to think that a car can only be one certain way. I think it’s well past time for the Camaro and every other V8 powered sports car to evolve.
