“Safe” ignition timing

I was told anything over 21 advance timing is pass the safe level for the LT1 and risk blowing the motor. This is on E85. Can anyone chime in?

My Camaro runs 27 degrees of timing at WOT from 4,500 RPM to redline on E85. Running 28 degrees did not make any more power, 26 degrees made slightly less power.. If you are dealing with lower octane fuels, you will obviously need to back the timing off a little, more if you want to be cautious.

Stock heads/cam LT1 cars run more than 21 degrees peak, but also it varies by RPM. On E you can get up to 28 degrees peak, again variable with RPM and cam position. But the only reason to command 28 on E is so that the ECU will pull down from 28 when intake temps, coolant temps or oil temps get hot. So you really end up running about 27 peak.
