WTT- OEM ZL1 wheels charcoal gray *w/new tires* for silver color. Cary, NC
I would like to trade my 2018 ZL1 OEM wheels and tires for a set of the lighter, silver color ZL1 OEM wheels. I got these wheels from a member of the form back in November 2023. As of 12/23/24 they now have BRAND new Goodyear sc3 tires with stickers still on them. Rims are in excellent condition. Just a few very minor imperfections from normal driving, no curb rash no significant scratches.
From my research the earlier ZL1 rims from approximately 2017-2020 were a darker, charcoal color. At some point maybe 2020 or 2021 GM went to a lighter, more silver color. I like the lighter, silver color so maybe someone likes the darker color, and we can work a trade. I may be willing to add cash if your wheels have 90+ tread. I’m right outside Raleigh NC and would be willing to drive to you as long as I could get there and back in one day’s driving. If someone is interested in trading let me know what you have. While I do not believe they changed the colors for any of the wheels over the years, I did do some research.

I went through the PDF charts up to 2019, and After Midnight Metallic appears on all of them with the same color code. While I could not find 2020+ PDFs, I used the GM Fleet Order Guides from 2017-2024 (except for 2020 as I couldn't find it). Can't find a difference in the description of the wheels (RTQ RPO) I'll try to find more info but would love if you or anyone has any idea about this

Here's some additional evidence for the wheel shades different, one forum member accounted his 2018 and 2023 ZL1 wheels were the same shade. Seems the manufacturer of the wheels may have made some oopsies and claimed both were the same somewhere along the line.

I would do it for you since mine are just stacked up next to my car, but I am in San Antonio. Plus I would want some cash with them since mine have the Michelin Pilot sports on them with more tread and the rims are 5 year ceramic coated.

Thanks for the input! I have done quite a bit of research and am very confident there was a color change about 2020-2021. After talking with experienced wheel refinishers, they say the factory finish is multistage with silver over a black base and very hard to duplicate, a minor change in the application process or paint vendor could have resulted in the color variation. It is difficult to see the difference in pictures of due to varying light sources. The easiest way to see the difference between the earlier and later color versions is to compare the color of the wheel to the center caps which remained the same over the years. As you can see in the picture below my 2018 wheels are darker and much closer to the black center caps where the ones on the 2023 ZL1 in the background are more silver than the center caps.

I'm the guy who posted the picture showing the color difference.
The strange thing is that GM will change the part number when anything gets revised on a part. The wheels show the same part number 2017 thru 2024. Tyrolblue67 |

Thanks for input. I think gm will change part # if there is any design change or functional improvement. A slight color change due to manufacture process or vendor wouldn’t result in part # change. If so the same oil filter or brake pads might have numerous different part numbers.
