Old news. It's already been proven that the crimp isn't restrictive until you get to about 800whp, way more than what this car puts out from the factory.

I agree, but until you get to a high HP build it’s been proven to not be a restriction that costs power. Plenty of discussion on this

If it concerns you then get a cat back exhaust or X-pipe to connect to the stock suitcase exhaust but it’s proven that the crimped section is not a real restriction unless you go for higher hp.

GM has had the exhaust flattened there for decades upon decades before the 6th gen Camaro. They know what they're doing.

I've owned mostly vettes and they route the exhaust over the axle. Point is why couldn't this be better engineered like the vette's just gives the impression it wasn't thought through it is a substantial collapse in the exhaust beyond an ovel shape.

With the price and engineering already in this car's handling/performace ext I'm just surprised/disappointed. if aftermarket exhausts R and D figured out why couldn't GM. Why not make the rear section oval for clearance?

People have changed these out since I've been on here for 7 years and no one that I know of has made anymore power changing them out to round tubing. Just wasting money.

It only really starts to matter once you start pushing 200 or more rwhp and even if the car had a normal oval exhaust, it's going to be changed out by that point anyways. The real reason why it's like this is because of the convertible. They have a brace there and need this crimp there. So they didn't make 2 separate productions of exhaust for the convertible and coupe. It only really makes the sound different. |

:This. All due to the convertible.

The vert (and cost saving) is the answer indeed. Here is an image to illustrate the reason, the cross braces are only used with the convertible for additional body rigidity.
