Tire question - Roast me if you please..... :)

I bought a set of rears (Bridgestone Potenza s007a 305s). Bridgestone dose not make the s007a in a stock size for the front. I spoke with tire rack and they suggested Eagle F1's for the front. Still do not feel so confident in mixing the tires.

This is a back up set..... currently F1's all around.

Any suggestions or advice?

Should I just burn up the s007a's at the strip?

Try a 275/35 on the front, I run that size on the front of my 1LE for my winter tire. You flex a little bit from 285/30.

Tire Rack ive found will generally give you good advice. Just for aesthetics I wouldn't mix Fr and Rr tires.

You shouldn't be mixing tires at all. Different tires have different capabilities.

I don't know why a company (especially Tire Rack) would even tell a customer to mix tires. I'm sure their website says to not mix tires......

Yeah... You worry about that, in a car which have different sizes on front and back? Not to mention constantly changing road conditions under them.
But I would go with same tire for looks.

On the street I have no issues mixing tires. Example: I run 305/30R19 PS4S on the front and 345/30R19 555RII DR on the rear. There is no place on the street where I'd let me self push the car into a corner hard enough to be concerned about the differences in types of tires or their sizes, just can't get that kind of grip on the street.

I did some road coarse racing with the car when it was stock and I would not mix and match types of tires there, sizes would be related to car's requirements and driver skill.

S007A come in 285/30R20

I don't get what you're trying to say. I said that mixing types of tires isn't a good choice. But you're saying that the front and rear tires being different sizes is more of an issue? Right.....

Having a 285 front and 305 rear (of the same brand and model tire) isn't going to cause issues like, for example), having the stock Goodyears on the front and PS4S tires out back.

I wouldn't go for looks over matching tires. That's very ignorant.

Why this isn't a good choice? Why not having matching tires is ignorant?

Say you get caught in heavy rain doing 55 mph on some back roads or a highway. You have the stock Goodyears on the rear and PS4S on the front

The Goodyears aren't going to give you the same grip in the rain as the PS4S tires. You come across a puddle that the PS4S handles with ease but the stock Goodyears won't and will lose grip, causing you to spin out.

Even then, you'll say "I'll just slow down to 30". Ok but now you're impeding the flow of traffic and could cause a accident.

Just search the internet with the keywords of "why shouldn't I drive with mixed tires" and you'll see why.

Having the EXACT SAME tires on the front and rear is what everyone should do. You should never mix tires.

People mix tires all the time, especially those that run drag radials on the rear. Sure it's not recommended or ideal but it's not going to kill you either. I would strongly recommend though that you run the best wet weather performance tire on the front since that's where you're steering comes from. I know plenty of people that run a high performance summer tire on the front and a drag radial on the rear for daily drivers. One should always drive cautiously in the rain regardless of what tires are on the vehicle. Always best to know your vehicle and its tires limits when driving. If Nitto will ever get the 555R2 back in stock, I'll be running them on the rear with a summer tire on the front as I've done many times before.

Mixing tires will not hurt anything unless you’re at the limit, and even then, tire temps pressures and different wear f/r would be similar to mixing tires. Just be smart about it, don’t run a Hoosier up front and gmax rear and wonder why the ass end is all over.

That's disproportionally blown out extreme Sir.

Hey. Just telling facts. Do what you want but don't come running back here posting about crashing in a light rain.

Of course there are those that say "I run summer tires on the front and drag radials on the rear all the time on my daily driver 800rwhp car". Sure. Daily as in when I know the weather is going to be nice.

I'm just trying to figure out what you think the different size tires need to be focused on. You still haven't answered that question.

I drove my 892whp Challenger Hellcat for 3 1/2 years daily, through the rain and all. Sold the car with 29k miles on it. I used Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires on the front and Nitto Drag radials on the rear. Never had an accident. When it rained hard, I just slowed down and drove with some sense. It's very much possible. People have accidents in the rain all the time with 4 matching tires.

I'm sure it's feasible. Practical? No. Safe? No.

I'm sure people like you would be a hazard to everyone else on the road going 15 or 20 under the speed limit in rainy conditions.

People get in accidents every with taking all the precautions that one should take. There isn't 1 person or vehicle that's accident free following the set guide lines but those people and vehicle are less likely to have an accident vs those not.
