LGX long-term reliability
Hey all,
I am looking at my first 6th Gen and, coming from a 5th Gen SS, was wondering how everyone has fared long-term with the V6 LGX? Are there any major, common issues with these engines anyone has experienced? Also, does anyone know if M6s are equipped with AFM? Thanks! |

Mine has been great but only 25k miles. Other than the infamous A8 shudder, I have no issues or complaints

I know someone on either here or one of the facebook groups is over 150k miles with hardly no issues.
I’m at 82k miles and I’ve had the transmission shudder (fixed from one flush) and e thermostat issue which I just unplug the battery and replug (will change the sensor later). AFM is only on the auto’s |

GM builds a great 6 cyl. The one in my impala and Lacrosse were shriekers at high RPM. Too bad they are going away.

In this guy's case it looks like just the TB issue, and other issue was his own fault. Based on that info, longevity looks semi promising. Thanks you for posting that

only real issue mine has had engine-wise is that the ecu botches reading the temp sensor sometimes on startup, and the way the ecu handles errors for the temp sensor is that it no longer trusts it for a dozen startups ...it doesn't re-check or re-test until then.
Luckily, you just have to clear the code and it will re-test and unless you have an actual thermostat issue, it will read fine and you wont have your coolant fan on full blast all the time anymore. btw, Manuals have all the mechanics of AFM in the engine, it's just not turned on. The lgx of a manual is exactly the same mechanical engine as the one in the auto. Only other issue i've had with the car that has been significant is the mylink display died on me. Parts stores wont sell you a new one and will try and force you to goto a dealer, so I had to go to ebay and fix it that way. Costs a couple hundred. |

At around 47k miles, so far only the following-
I consider that to be cheap insurance and preventative maintenance for the engine. I also pre-emptively changed the A8's transmission fluid and filter recently even though it did not have the shudder. Again I consider that to be cheap insurance and PM. I also run a Range device to prevent the annoying dithering back and forth between V6 to V4 modes. This should help prevent AFM hardware issues longer-term. And besides, I bought a V6 Camaro, not a Prius. So... Time will tell, but so far I am very happy with the LGX.

I have 38k miles and I've had these issues
I haven't had the transmission shake issue with my A8. I plan to keep the car for a while so we'll see what's next. Hey, it's been the most reliable American car I've ever bought... as well as the only American car. |
