1LE Features Noticeable on a Daily Driver?
Hi all, I'm thinking about purchasing a 2020 Camaro SS and had a question about the 1LE package. I know what it is and does for performance, but I am wondering if you get any benefit from those features on a daily basis, like driving in town, highways, and interstates. In other words, do you only notice the 1LE features when you're out on the track or does it also make daily driving a better experience too?

If your current car doesn't have the Mag ride you'll notice that difference. I noticed the difference from the Edif as well, but I like to drive pretty aggressively. I put the car in Comp mode every time I start it. I like that I can drive aggressively, break the rear end loose through a turn, then with just a bit of throttle feathering and steering adjustment get it right back online. There's a lot less roll through aggressive cornering as well.
Short answer, if you like to drive it fairly hard you will definitely notice the difference. |

1LE will ride a tad stiffer but not enough that you'll hate the ride on a daily basis. Tire replacement will cost more since the wheels/tires are wider vs a non 1LE.
If you do spirited driving and enjoy the corners, you'll probably notice the 1LE goodies. If you just want a good, touring Camaro, the non 1LE will probably suit you just fine. |

I agree with GearHeadSS, you will notice higher cost for the tires and fewer choices. You'll get worse gas mileage in an SS 1LE than in an A8 SS. In my case my A8 SS averaged right at 22 overall and my M6 SS 1LE is averaging 18 overall after almost a year. No AFM.

EDiff is very noticeable in slow, tight parking lot type maneuvers. You're not fighting the friction of a limited-slip diff and you notice it pretty quickly.

Hard to say, but the 1LE is fun, and it differentiates a bit from the standard SS. But...like said, tires are more $$. If you DD the 1LE, you might want to search which tires are better in rain, the supercar 3's are not great in any standing water situation, wet ok, but in a down poor you'll want to sh!t your pants a little on the highway and let the 79, 2.3 liter Mustangs pass you till the rain stops.

So true about the Goodyear tires Denver Taco! They are like that on my ZL1 when there’s standing water on the road. To the OP, get the Camaro that you think you would like and enjoy the most because ultimately it will be your car not ours to pay for! I was thinking that I didn’t need a ZL1 but my 2017 showed up at a time when I could afford a used one and the deal was a good one so I took the plunge and couldn’t be happier with my choice! Good luck and either Camaro will be a good choice.

If I got the 1LE, I would search out some regular SS take offs or go to a 19" square setup to save money on tires, and for a better selection.

I had an SS 1LE...and I don't think they are good daily drivers, personally. The recaro seats were not comfortable for DD duty (but were great on the track). I'd just go with an SS personally (or, gasp, a V6 or turbo 4). They're all great cars. 1LE package is awesome and you would appreciate the incredible suspension but again, if you aren't able to use that power and capability on the street, its basically just frustrating.

My mistake was I liked the idea of daily driving a 1LE more than actually doing it. The side bolster on the recaros will stick in your upper R arm when shifting, and you'll get tired of it. You won't be able to shift around on the seat to adjust your underwear, etc. You'll get tired of that too. I also did not like the fake suede wheel and shifter. I found the HUD to be completely pointless and distracting. I never turned it on.
Don't get me wrong, it was an absolutely stellar car and when I had it on track it was amazing. But I realized I wanted a Camaro that would be a great daily driver--to work when I felt like it, road trips, errands, and I wanted a car whos limits I could more realistically approach on the street. I wasn't going to track the car enough to make it worth it. To answer your literal question OP, No. I do not feel that the 1LE components help the daily driving experience at all, in fact I feel they hinder it, unless you are tearing around on isolated mountain roads, and you get satisfaction out of doing that as fast as humanly possible. The track is where the 1LE wants to live. |
