First Supercharger

I am eagerly waiting for the delivery of my Whipple supercharger making its way across the country as I speak. This is my first supercharged car. Everything is stock and will be using canned tune from Whipple to start with. Part 2 of this build that will continue next year would be tire upgrade, lt4 fuel system and custom tune. This year going to keep it basic. My question is this : is there any type of break-in procedure for a new supercharged car? I do have full access to hp tuners so I can monitor everything when I fire it up, what readings do I need to watch closely on first runs. I plan on slowy adding acceleration with each run to verify everything is running as it should before I really lean into it. Any suggestions and comments are welcome.

Congrats on the new toy . For me, and no it’s not a knock on anyone’s canned tune, but I really didn’t push on the loud pedal until I was able to get it dyno tuned. Just not a huge fan of canned tunes.

wide-band HPTuner and contact a vendor for email tune or local for dyno tune. HPTuner has new wireless setups. I have a Ballinger wide-band and it seems that this is what HPTuner is pushing.

There are guys with N-Gauge and from what I understand, this can do all of the above.

I would think with a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty it would be safe to go wide open with it. I would think it would be a conservative tune leaving power on the table, at least for the time being.

Definitely this ^^^

However, have Whipple resolved the issue's they had on the early versions of this kit with noisy snout bearing? I only ask because I too am considering going down this route so sorry for the thread jack!

I thought I read in another thread the issue was taken care of that's why I finally pulled the trigger, but I could be mistaken.

I thought I had read in a different thread that the issue was taken care of, that's why I finally pulled the trigger and purchased. That and I was able to get in on a group buy.

I am sure you are as excited as am I. My Whipple is currently in Iowa coming to PA. I did a Vortech years ago on a GM 5.7L years ago with my dad on his 95 chevy pick-up. so this is my first SC on my own.

Since I had the intake off, I went with doing the LT4 HPFP and injectors, along with a Roto-Fab dry filter CAI. Mine is scheduled to deliver this Friday, so I will be installing it this weekend. I already have the car torn down and the HPFP and injectors done. so I am ready to put it back together. I am also doing the P3 vent OBD2 multi-gauge with the analog boost sensor.

I did not get the canned tune because of the other upgrades. So I will have to trailer to my tuner (CSP) for a startup tune. Drive it some to make sure there are not leaks, then take it back for a final tune.

Happy wrenching, hope it all goes well and we are both happy with our decisions.

I wanted to mirror your build do it all at once and get a custom tune, just wasn't in the cards this year. My last car, grand prix gxp, I went the cam route. That was an interesting build considering I had to drop the engine out of the bottom in my garage without a lift. That why I decided to jump on the supercharger right out of the gate. I wish the best of luck for you and your build.

Is your a manual or auto (M6 here)? We both have the same color and it looks like you have the silver stripes as well, just like mine. Love the hyper blue color.

I have the A8, it was a difficult decision, but I use it as my DD except during the winter so I hit a lot of rush hour gridlock, I got sick of a manual pretty quick in traffic. You have to love the blue with silver stripes, my number one comment is "that is a beautiful car". I tend to agree.

I have been running the stock whipple tune for about 1,000 miles now. I have gotten it dynoed and taken it to the track (11.17 at DA over 4,000). I have no worries about the safety of the canned tune. I will be adding LT4 fueling and a custom tune. But enjoying the new power for now.

Slap the Whipple on and other then a few miles to make sure everything is installed and running properly go ahead and drive it like you stole it.

The canned tune from Whipple runs a rich as most do which is safe. A dyno tune down the road will grab you a few more ponies but trust me you'll be plenty happy with the install out of the box.

We are an authorized Whipple dealer and have been dealing with them for a while now. We highly recommend and discount these.
