Need Help!

Ok, so I followed the break-in instructions for 1500 miles. (17 ZL1 M6) So it was time to have a little fun. Put in Track mode, pushed traction control twice and turned off traction control and Stabilitrac. Opened PTM menu, put in Sport 1. Tried to do a simple burnout..... Engine cut out and bogged down? Ok, lets try Sport 2, same thing! Hmmm, OK head spinning, lets try Race mode. Same thing, almost like a small back fire or misfire timing issue. So I thought, maybe I was hitting rev limit? So I tried one more time in race mode, paying particular attention to Tachometer, engine popped or cut out at 3000-3500 RPM. So, I'm a little lost and could use some advise. Thanks!

Hold down the TC button for 10+ seconds. That's the only way to disable everything.

Interesting. I read the HP Manual and it says in PTM Sport 2 and Race Mode, traction control and stabilitrac are off? So, they are still partially working? Is the engine cutting power as the wheels spin even in Sport 2 and Race mode? Thanks for advise!

Yes. All settings in the Performance TRACTION Management system are designed to maintain some sort of traction.

No worries, though. I made the same mistake when I put my car on the dyno for the first time... haha

Be careful if you disable all TC and ST. You have no aides to help you in this mode if you get out of control. This is a great way to send your car into a curb or other obstacle of you're not prepared and familiar with how it acts with no nannies on at all.

It also seems like the car should not be bogging down in using the Dry, Sport 1, etc, modes, depending on exactly what you're doing. Did you check the settings in the launch control menu? I'm assuming everything is off or set to default?

Thanks for response. I was simply trying to do a small burnout in a straight line. It was different than when launch control holds rpm down. It was more of an engine cutout or spudder as tires were breaking loose at around 3000 RPM. Shouldn't you be able to lay a little rubber down in Sport 2 or Race Mode with Traction Control pushed twice and in PTM mode?.

No. It will try to maintain traction. If you want to break the tires loose, you will need to disable everything, as I stated above.

No those are DRIVING modes based on track conditions and the desired level of nanny assist you want. PTM = Performance Traction Management. Traction is burnout kryptonite.

Makes sense PTM=Performance Traction Management. I thought I read in manual to turn off Traction Management push button twice. Lots to learn with these cars! Growing up, if you wanted to light up the tires, you just floored it! Now its a fricking computer attached to wheels!

You do need to hit it twice to get to the line loc mode on the steering wheel under settings. That will get you into burn out mode without holding down for 10 sec.

No kidding. There are a few sequences to remember, but once you've done them once, or 10 times, then they stick! Haha.

I'm still looking for a private place to try them out.

Actually, that's the problem! The nannies will NOT let me do a burnout.... That's what the discussion is about. Apparently you have to make adjustments and turn nannies off or the engine will cut power when you "mash the pedal"...

If you want to do a nice straight line burnout, try the line lock. It's under the launch control menu. It holds the front brakes and allows you to start to spin the rears. Then simply hit the OK and cruise control buttons and you'll start to roll. It will make you look like an expert.
