Aftermarker Pistons past 700WHP
Does anyone have experience on if aftermarket pistons are needed past 700WHP
Speaking with my shop, they are stated that LT1 pistons aren't as durable as LS3s Just looking for insight Thanks |

For a direct answer it would be in your best interest to do it. I have asked about engine boost and the response was to upgrade if going beyond 650 for any extended periods unless running E85 to which you might be ok a bit further. I believe the AGP TT kit goes into the 750-800 HP range on the stock pistons though. I rather not risk my pistons being shot out of my hood three states over to be picked up.

Lots of c7 guys making above 700whp on stock pistons I'm still not sold yet on replacing mine at 650whp.

I wonder if the failures are catastrophic or not?

Plan to be back on the dyno in about a week to see where we can get the car can go with the stock block. Stock pistons can normally go pretty far as long as there is absolutely no knock. I'll post once I have some results...

Labor on forged pistons install is probably stupid expensive.

Yeah that's what I'm expecting
Drop in pistons alone are $1200 They are suggesting to do same time as cam. I may just plan a HCI setup Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I love power as much as the next guy but I just don't see the need to pay for drop in forged pistons at the same compression ratio. The high compression stock pistons are part of the power limitations of this motor. If you are running E85 or race gas then it probably should have a piston upgrade but if you run it on pump gas it just isn't going to make enough power for the pistons to fail unless you spray a lot of meth on it. Leave the meth off and do a safe tune and the stock pistons will be fine. If you want a monster build then forge the whole shortblock and drop the compression ratio some.

Yes, Vengeance Racing felt that it would be better to keep the exact same piston dimensions and compression ratio to avoid the need for additional engine balancing.
If I put in new pistons I want less compression so I can throw more boost at it. I like the idea that someone at ADM is working on the cylinder heads to decrease the compression a little there. I'm still thinking that eventually a 417 stroker kit and the Lingenfelter modified fuel system is going to be required to really use the boost all of these FI systems can make.... in reality at least $10K more than we paid for FI.

Makes no sense. The problem only exists with boost and because of the high compression. Shouldn't take too much engineering to create a piston that still balances but with lower compression???
Didn't we use head spacers or thicker gaskets back in the day??? Are the LT1 and LT4 combustion chambers identical?
