COLD Weather Question and tires????
I want to take my 2016 2SS down to Arizona for the winter. We plan on leaving Minnesota end of DEC. Now the average temp around that time of year is 30 degrees. I have to get out of Minnesota then Iowa and then Kansas before I should see temps at 50.. Any idea how the Good Year F1 run flats will perform in the cold temps???? INPUT PLEASE<< PM me if you don't want to post in here...
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() :welcom e:Would it be OK to put all season tires on just the Back tires ????

Do not drive on the summer tires in temps under 40. The rubber compound will not warm up and will remain hard, reducing your traction. All season tires use a softer rubber compound than summer tires. It's not just rain and snow that summer tires are bad in.

Drove mine all winter last year in Denver, even in temps of 15-25. The key is not "cold-soaking" them before driving them. My car was garaged every night at around 40+ degrees. I put a small heater in the garage to keep inside temperature up. As long as the tires stay at 40+ overnight and you drive nice and easy to warm the tires up, they will be fine. Driving in cold temps isn't the issue it is the overnight "cold-soak" freezing the tires solid. And yes, tire grip on the these F1's is less in the cold but by no means is the car undrivable, as long as there is no snow or ice on road. If there is, forget it.

I drove a few days in temps <40 degrees in April. Handling performance was severely reduced, and the car really scared me a few times, getting sideways with only moderate acceleration on a dry surface. If you take it super easy, the car would be OK. All seasons seem like your best bet in this scenario. If it were me, I would only make the drive on summer tires if there was a guarantee of no precipitation in <40 degree weather.

As above.
I picked my Camaro up beginning of March. Had quite a few mornings that were down in the 20s. I just went slow and easy on throttle, but I have a short drive to work, 15 mins. No snow, just cold.

Quote from Owners manual:
"Summer Tires High Performance Summer Tires This vehicle may come with 245/40ZR20 and 275/35ZR20 high performance summer tires. These tires have a special tread and compound that are optimized for maximum dry and wet road performance. This special tread and compound will have decreased performance in cold climates, and on ice and snow. It is recommended that winter tires be installed on the vehicle if frequent driving at temperatures below approximately 5 °C (40 °F) or on ice or snow covered roads is expected."

So what do you guys suggest for winter tires. Should we go down to 245 tires all all around? Or keep the 275 in the rear? I come from the Evo community and some people go down in size because it's better for the snow.

Put some BFG Comp2 all seasons on for the cold months. You'll loose a little sharpness with them but the cold/wet/snow performance it 100x better than summer tires.

I am going with Continental DWS06. Had the previous version on my 5th gen and they were great. We don't get much snow here though.

DWS06 are a great choice and plenty of write ups here in the forums about them. I have mine in the garage for this winter but trying to wear my stock tires more before i make the switch to them.

You'll make it as long as you don't get stuck in snow. If you have a clear path, just baby it and you will be fine.
