750 Mile Oil Change
My dealership gave me a complimentary oil service at 750 miles. I wanted it closer to 500 but they were booked for earlier appointments. I asked them to save a sample of the oil as it first came out of the crankcase. I was curious if there would be any metallic particles in it and there was none that I could see. The oil was much darker than I expected and I have no clue why...maybe that's normal. I'm going to monitor that and see if it's typical after 1000 miles after the oil service.
Anyway, I thank Dwain Taylor of Murray, KY for their great customer service. They're great!

Mine was dark to med brown at 600 miles. I'm at 2100 now and it's looking brown again. I'm gonna change it again soon. It seems normal.

Makes me wonder what the "dark" is...lol. Since I'm still breaking this car in by the Owner's Manual, I thought it might be pretty clear. But if some oil is still getting dark in color at 2100 mile...I ain't a gonna' worry about it. Thanks for the feedback!

Due to the way engines run these days that are much hotter, and with other things that have to do with EPA, they all turn the oil fairly dark fairly quickly. Especially supercharged/turbo charged engines…dark these days is totally normal.
Rsther than looking at the oil, cut the filter open to check for metal. |

Yea, dont check the oil color to see if its time to change it. Seriously. It gets dark within 500 miles.

Well, I'll worry about it if it gets as dark as that in my previous Cruze Turbo Diesel...lol.

You won't generally see metal unless there are some issues. I would love for you to send that sample in to see what it had in it. It's pretty cheap now. I'm planning on doing that for fun when I get mine.

The oil filter, filters down to microns so yea you'll never see anything.
Also Oil turning dark means its working, dark color is no indication of performance or condition. |

You do know the C7 Corvettes are finding metal in the oil and that's why they get a 500 mile oil service. My dealership service manager who is pretty savvy about this stuff confirmed that. That's why he agreed to do the service on my Camaro LT1 even though there is no requirement for it. Great service from these folks and that I appreciate.

At any rate, I'm glad to have gotten a free oil service. Back in "the day" it was recommended to change oil at about 500 miles, so it made me feel right at home. I would have been very surprised to see anything out of sorts in the oil.
Thanks for all the good thoughts and education.
