Idiot on the road

So last night I was in the camaro with my roommate. We were headed to walmart to pick up some groceries and stuff and we stopped at an intersection in the right lane. I look over and a 2007 green GT500 pulls up next to me. I then hear him shift it into neutral (automatic) and rev it a few times. Didn't exactly sound good, I'm not sure if he had a bad aftermarket exhaust or what. Anyways, I already have the clutch in and rev a few times in response. I had no intentions of racing, but clearly this guy wanted to be c*cky, and I could see his girlfriend in the passenger seat. I turned to my roommate "He must be trying to impress that chick, haha"

So the perpendicular traffic lane's light turns yellow and then red. I see the guy get ready to take off and think to myself "I hope he f*cks up somehow.". The light turns green and he FLOORS it.

Guess which light turned green? THE LEFT TURN ARROW. And the same left turn arrow comes on for the opposing traffic! So he burns through the intersection and the opposing car (trying to turn) lays on their horn. He swerves wildly to avoid them and then continues to floor it, without a doubt running away from all the traffic to hide his shame.

My roommate and I with the windows down are laughing our asses off! The light turns green for us and we roll off in the direction the GT500 went. Never saw him again though.

After all this I WISH I had my GoPro running right then!!!
Nothing against the GT500. Coulda been any nice car. It just proves that money can't buy you smarts.

P.S.: His girlfriend was ugly.

I had a challenger do that to me today too, except we were on the freeway. He was revving his engine and I'd see his car jump up and forward when he did it. He just about hit the car in front of him.

Hate to say it, but that was not a GT500. There has not been a green painted modern GT500 yet. If it was dark (Forest) green it was a 2008-2009 Bullitt Edition GT V8 4.6L or if it was light (sparkly) green it was a 2005-2006 4.0L V6 or a 4.6L V8 GT.

Also, yes the (modern) GT500 has never came in automatic transmission.

Either way that car must have been mis-badged or body kit-ed, maybe that is why it didn't sound good?

Sucks for that driver though.

If it had been a drag race, would that have been red-lighting?

The girl in the passenger seat could have been his sister or 1st cousin..........if this were a WV story. I'm still trying to visualize, hearing someone shift a auto into neutral......never mind/ lmao

That makes it even better! haha, it must've been badged by the owner. Hence the awful exhaust sound.
I googled it a few times ago and couldn't even find GT500s in that color either, so I was suspecting it had been modified. It's that light green color and was sporting a large black stripe down the middle and two pinstripe type stripes on it. Like the stripe on the older GT500s.

I'm sure it was all badging, nothing under the hood.

This is the second mustang of that body style I've seen with fake GT500 badging. Lame.

I saw him move the shifter and there was a slight clicking noise. Not sure if that was the noise or not, but whatever.

And you certainly could be right!

Yeah, haha that is funny. There is no chance at all of that being a GT500. You could also check for hood vents, rear valence, front end, rear badging, spoiler that extends outwards towards rear, wheels and Brembo brakes to see if a 'GT500' is real. Supercharger whine is a good tell-tale too.

Also the modern GT500's have only come in basic colors, Grabber (Baby) Blue and Kona (Dark Blue/Purple Mix) being the most 'exotic' colors ever to be given to them. They are getting red tint coat this summer though!

The 2011+ GT500's are only available with HID headlamps also.

BTW the stripes on that 'GT500' were Super Snake stripes, that makes the car even funnier. The Super Snake is the ultimate/super rare/super fast Shelby Mustang, not to be faked. Only a idiot would try to make a V6/GT into Super Snake. That's so lame.

Just some info for you to help your Mustang knowledge to spot a fake 'GT500'. This isn't a Mustang forum so I won't post any more info unless asked.

Also people might be negatively replying to your post because it appears that this is the SS/LS/LT sub forum, try posting in the Off-Topic or General Automotive sections and see if response improves. I don't see anything wrong besides that in your post.

Not to hijack this thread, but ace, why do you hate your mustang?

And Hightower lost me when he couldn't tell a GT from a GT500.

That's some good info indeed! I've never looked too far into modern gt500s, I'll never own one. I appreciate the info though.

Just from the side, I noticed he had no supersnake hood. However, he DID have the SVT rims from the GT500.

And I see your point on where to post this. I posted this thread here mainly because of what happened, not because it was a mustang. Like I said, it coulda been any other car. Just an idiot in the car.

I wondered the same about Ace.

And It's not my fault some idiot badged his car something it was not.

I know more that most about mustangs, thank you very much. I thought I was getting a mustang before I got my camaro. And I've been a member of mustangfroums.com since April 2010. I've got a '67 and '68 mustang back at home.

Now please, don't doubt my ability to properly identify a mustang.

If the car was parked in a parking lot I would tell the difference. 7:30 at night, in the dark, lined up next to me, I made the best of the few glances I took. I didn't want to dignify the toolbag by looking his car up and down. Seems like the guy had enough ego issues.

funniest thing every happened to me was a long time ago (I was about 16-yrs old) was heading home from work at about 2am in my 1985 1/2 ford escort. and yes, the model year was actually 85 1/2. what I called my high performance POS. I was stopped at a red light when a guy pulls up in one of those 5.0 mustangs that were so popular in the late 80's and starts revving his engine. so just to humor him, I rev that massive 80 or so HP I4 of my escort. light turns green and he hauls ass while I make my usual 90 second 0-60 start. he gets about half a mile down the road and I see what looks like a flame shoot out one or both of his tail pipes and he comes to a complete stop. I then gave him two quick honks of the horn as I blew by him at about 45mph.
