If I recall correctly, 2011 was a magical year for the ZR1...I hope he held onto that car!
You definitely know what you're in store for then, when you get it back. I just wanted to be sure you didn't get stuck waiting for wheels and ended up wrecking it because you stayed on the stock wheels and tires I thought you were closer to getting it back but it sounds like you're not out of the woods yet. You might be able to get the new Pilot Super Sports (4S or 4A?) for rubber. Those should be good in the rain and all around.

Yeah I just knew for sure that it would have been out by now but I'm still on back burner. My buddy actually sold it to another one of our friends (he needed to buy a house) but ended blowing thru the $ and bought a 2015 lifted platinum f250 diesel instead hahaha and no house. What do you run on yours? also how will these new Pilot Super Sports hook?

The new version of the PSS are coming out this month I think and are supposed to be even better. I've got the original ones on and only really had a couple days so far where I could drive the car hard and it was warm enough outside here to get an accurate assessment. They did a good job for me but I didn't hammer it, WOT, in 1st or 2nd gear yet. I did in 3rd and 4th and they held very well and it was only in the low 50's outside. I also got stuck in a big rain storm last summer and didn't hydroplane at all. They're amazing on tight turns but I'm still waiting for warmer temps to see what happens after a few 0-60 runs.
You can also try sport cup 2's and they'll probably grip better, but they're not going to last very long at all.

So here it is 2k17 week in Houston and here I sit at (month number 4 next week) and I'm still without my car. At least I can watch youtube vids of all the action though I'm missing out on. Note to people wanting to do major builds Please don't, leave your shit stock and save your money and enjoy it as it is. I am both frustrated, and out of a lot of money and time. All the excitement is gone and I'm ready to abandon this whole nightmare. I paid cash for my car and enjoyed it for about 5 weeks, Don't know where this is going to go from here.

I also decided that if I want a faster car, i should just go buy a faster car. I hope your build works out, and you can enjoy it. Keep us updated. |

Sounds like he must owe the shop money. Just looked back through this thread again and a lot of what he asked for in addition to what he was originally doing wasn't necessary for a street car. It's expensive stuff, especially on this car. Use the wrong shop and things can go terribly wrong...hell, they can go terribly wrong with the right shop too. I could be wrong but I just have a feeling he kept going back and asking for things (ported heads, forged pistons and rods, etc.) and got the bill before he knew what it was going to cost to do.

I learned my lesson with my 5th gen twin turbo build that had me spending more at the time than ZL1 money. I started out with a bad shop and then paid a good shop to fix things up. And then things started breaking and ending up with my friend totaling the car. He is fine. But what a nightmare.
So after that experience I am only going full bolton with my current SS moving slowly. Now my M6 SS is a solid 11 second car and I have only spent a fraction of my 1LE project money. If I want to go bigger I will wait for a M6 ZL1 to go 20% off and upgrade. As my grandmother used to say: “Vee Get Too Soon Oldt, und Too Late Schmardt"

I will say though that the shop is pretty trustworthy (not my issue). The back burner and taking 4 months (next week) with the car still sitting is my problem. They have put out some badass street cars and I actually like the guy but damn all the waiting is just uncalled for imho. |

He can't give me a legitimate excuse, that is just it. There is nothing we are waiting on? I plan on picking it up more than likely tomorrow afternoon if it is still sitting untouched.

I'd call a lawyer before you take it back if you already paid for the labor in full as well as the dyno time to tune it.

I can totally understand what pain you're feeling. Before the camaro I had an sti. She was beautiful and my baby, but long story short, the oil pickup tube cracked and led to a spun bearing. So I said screw it, full rebuild. I think the car was in the shop from June til late September. I was so pissed, that's prime summertime cruising and all that fun stuff. The heads took forever just like yours, the engine took even longer to get to the shop. I only bring this up because I felt exactly like you posted. Wtf am I doing and I should've just left well enough alone and not messed with the car in the first place.
The good news is once I finally got the car back it was a monster, after I had to re-break her in which takes a while too. I'm not trying to bust your balls but I'll never do that again unless it's it's a winter build and even then I don't think I'm messing with this car. Good thing is you have time and you'll hopefully get the car back when the weather is perfect, gl bro! But for me...never again unless there's no other option.
