Dude you've gone way way overboard with this for a street car. Just drive it and see what it needs. If you roll race you may not need to do this stuff. The stock axles and driveshaft can support 700rwhp and I've had no problems so far. If it brakes then replace it so you don't waste the good GM parts already on the car. Same goes with the clutch. Wheel hop and tires are a different story though. At the power levels you'll have with this, you're going to need the right tires and rear upper and lower trailing arms that come with bushings since the wheel hop will damage the car. I really hope this works out for you. Good luck with everything!

Ok guys left the shop and viewed the heads in person and a lot of questions were answered and all of my concerns were addressed. These heads are completely different from the ls style heads and I did verify they were ported but not milled (I wasn't charged for milling). This was do to the fact that I need to lower my compression and by milling the surface (if I am stating this correct) will raise my compression instead of lowering it. The heads are not going to look like an ls style heads when refinished (mirror finish). The pics were taken when they came right off the table (before being cleaned up). They flow about 50 more over stock according to porter. The motor is ready for pick up from machine shop (Tuesday) and car should be completed 2 weeks from today as a promise date as of right now. Pics coming Wednesday with ore actual updates.

Yeah milling will raise your compression.
If you want to further lower your compression you could look into thicker head gaskets as well. |

Not as of yet no sir. I don't know why I am still waiting but I am still waiting. Again Chris is trustworthy and a damn good guy I do not doubt his skills or integrity and I trust him with my life (seriously). He is just a little slow to be honest and this is just something I have come to accept.
The motor was picked up from machine shop Friday (3/3) and he will start assembling Tuesday. Hoping for a tx2k finish date but I am going to hold my breath there. Truth be told everything is paid (labor and 85% of parts). Chris did cover 875.00 for balance on heads and machine shop balancing which I owe him and he has not bothered me for this. Hopefully I will have some kind of an update next week but won't hold my breath at this point. In the end it will be worth it. |

So what are you going to be mounting on this bad boy for wheels and tires?

I have an idea but haven't got that far yet because I've been on the back burner so long. This is why I'm skeptical about putting more money in it, tired of pouring thousands just to see it sit and collect dust. Once it actually heads to the tuner I will get either some 17 1le reps or Zl1 reps with 305's out back. Hearing great things on Nitto's but nothing in concrete as of yet. This car is my daily driver (lol) or that was it's purpose so I can't go too radical tire wise. I'm open to suggestions too.

You and I are in similar situations in how we use the car and should be close on power. Your car should be able to put down more power than mine since you did heads and went with forged pistons and rods. I'm not sure if you've ever had a car this fast or powerful before. There's no way you're going to be able to drive it safely aggressively with the stock wheels/tires, so it's a good thing you're getting something else. If you get on it it'll shred them and you could easily lose control of it.
I've only really had 1 good day so far where I could use the car in temps above 50F, but I'm not sure that 305's in back are going to be enough. I haven't been able to fully test WOT in 1st and 2nd gear yet, but I doubt a 305 street tire will be enough if you're going to be putting down over 700rwhp. And if you like to hit crazy top speeds, one little loss of traction with an imperfect wheel could be disastrous. Be careful with knock-off wheels. I'd try to at least get the real OEM 1LE's since they're from GM and really forged, or another real forged wheel and/or a set of slicks. Remember, when this car is done, you're going to be in another league with super car slaying power.

Thanks les and this is probably 2nd or 3rd to fastest car I've owned. I very recently came out of a 2012 Caddy ctsv wagon that was full bolt ons and cammed. Made 672 to the ground and was fairly quick for what it was but after a while seemed slow to me lol. It is a toss up though from with my 09 Z06 full bolt ons (no cam) and the v (had those 2 as well as a 13 Camaro ls3 ss cammed, and a stock 2012 grand Cherokee srt at the same time). Fastest car was my brothers 2011 Zr1 with headers and tune, It was a blast and that is kind of what I'm looking for performance wise out of my ss.
I am just a bit frustrated with my build time so a lot of the excitement is actually wearing off and turning to grief. It is hard when it is a competent easy going person who is always spot on with communication and does not avoid you lol. But back to the topic at hand I doubt there is any tire that will actually grab worth a darn on a 305 and somewhat safe (drivable) in the rain. I wish to god that was my only concern about now regarding this car. I too think our car's will be very close power wise (probably within 10-15 horses +/-) |
