I paid 550.00 shipped from a place on Ebay. I thought they would be to narrow also but the wheel time combo seems to work well and looks pretty good.

My car is lowered and the 305s tuck right under the fender well as they should. If it don't tuck it's not gonna be on my car.

Are the 3-dimensional areas around the rear wheel assembles identical on the LT1 and the SS?

Jim G
I believe the stock rear wheels on an LT1 are only 8.5” wide and not 9.5” wide like rear SS wheels. Just bringing that up as a 305 wide tire would be too wide for the 8.5” wheel.

Edit: oops, King beat me to the punch.

This raised 4 questions:

1. Would the SS 9.5" wide wheel look exactly like my 8.5" wheel (photo above), or would it be different?

2. Would the SS wheel be available with the red hash like on my LT1 Redline wheels (above)?

If not:

3. What is the maximum width of Nitto 555R2 tire that I could mount on my lT1 wheels?

4. And would that be sufficient to make a meaningful difference in traction?

It had honestly not even occurred to me that with the OEM wheels and tires, I'd have traction issues at highway speeds. Never had that problem ever before.

^ I previously posted that 275/35/20 is the largest you can put on your 8.5" wheel.

Are you running OEM tire size in the Nittos? Or?

How wide can you go, or more realistically, how wide is appropriate with the stock LT1 suspension and fender clearances?

Will the Nitto 555R2 has reasonable ability to handle rain and cold temperatures? (MY car would not be used in really cold or really slippery weather)

How much tread life would I be giving up compared to OEM run flats or Michelin PS4S?

Jim G
Tire size is in my sig below. I cant vouch for rain or cold perf, but it looks like others have.

I could break the oem runflats loose at 40 mph with stock power. I can sell you my Racestars. I had NT05 305/30/20, which you could swap out for 305/30/20 NT555R2s. That was my plan but got tired of the backorders. Now i want to keep the 17s in back. I like the look and the hook too much to go back to 20s.

Yes, I just traced back in the thread and saw that now.

1. Does the Nitto 5552R come in that size?

2. Would that make enough difference over the OEM 245/40 run-flats to make the expenditure on the tires worthwhile?

3. is the Nitto 5552R lighter in weight than the OEM 245/40 run-flat, or heavier?

I really like the wheels my LT1 Redline came with. They not only look really good to me, but they are the first wheels I've ever owned that I can easily clean completely, including the inside sides of each spoke (even the spokes aligned with the brake calipers) and the inside diameter of the wheel! I cannot believe how airy they are! And the paint finish is excellent.

New best today. Still a tenth off on my best 0-60 but it's making more up top. Almost trapped 137. I should be able to get a 10.4. Not easy on no prep.

Agree with King. Not only are the new tires 12.5% wider, but more importantly they use a much better tire compound for traction. Will be a significant improvement in straight line traction.

Hey KinglT1: That 10.58 second quarter mile time is almost as quick as my 2008 Kawasaki ZX-6R MOTORCYCLE whose rev limit is 16,500 and whose weight I got down to about 395 lb before fuel !! For a CAR, 10.5 is really moving!

If I go with the Nitto 555R2 tires on my OEM 8.5" wide rims, should I run the OEM 35 psi tire pressure for street (No dragracing and no track days), or a different psi?
