Not really. Like most of these industries they rely on vendors. Sounds as if in this case they may have identified a flaw in parts provided by a vendor and are working to fix it and are beginning to work the logistics of replacing them as necessary. It happens. I have been working in aviation (military) my whole life and even in that community they will find parts that don't meet spec and will work replacing them. Depending on the impact, some quickly others in time when the parts are available.

So, figure 3 months or so until they have production from a supplier...

Guess i'll have to flash back to stock in case they need to play with the TCM after having the trans out. Meh.

Leaving everything else on since they shouldn't need to play around with the top of the motor.

I just got back from the dealer for another issue with mine (seat cover pulling away from seat lever) and they also noticed this "recall" and performed the update for me. Now this has me concerned that there is going to be what will be my THIRD recall after the fan connector water thing and my rear toe links. If anyone has sorted out what this is, what this software update was supposed to do and if we're looking a big transmission repair please leave a post. This is not looking good and I am NOT going to like if if my transmission craps the bed out of nowhere on a 6 month old car.

I would call them and ask. Its possible someone dropped the ball and the parts are in and waiting. In my case my service advisor up and quit and did not tell anyone about pending part orders. So they were sitting there for weeks until I called and asked where the hell they were.

Went in for an oil change and the service agent informed me about this recall. He said they would need to order the parts then schedule another visit. A web search using my VIN showed nothing so I asked another agent and he provided a print out as follows:

Campaign # 33110 dated: 9/16/2016 status: open

Desc: When a commanded shift occurs outside of the expected transmission turbine speed window limits, the commanded shift monitor requests a driver defaulted 8th gear state. The torque associated with the default action results in broken turbine shaft. The calibration window (based on output speed) for the safety monitor (P16F3) is smaller than the calibration window for the driver initiated tap downshift speed limit checks.

Repair: Reprogram the transmission control module.

So, it sounds like there is a lot of dealer confusion. The reprogram should have been done today and should be all that is needed for vehicles that have not had a failure. Replacement parts and transmission removal should only be needed if the driver is having problems and the shaft has failed.

Guess I will have to call the dealer back to confirm this.

Yeah, what parts? Last time mine was in they just reprogrammed it, nothing physically gets replaced unless it actually breaks.
