Yes its an M6 car. In my case, it was where my friend went from 3rd to 2nd, instead of 4th. This happened at near the limiter so it likely saw 7500-8000 rpm.

I find the shape of the shifter lends itself to be handled with the "thumbs down approach". I find it kind of uncomfortable to "gorilla grip" it (I dunno, guess I'll call it that). Glad I got used to it that way, never thought of this happening (I've never moneyshifted so it's not on my mind).
MyNamels, to add to Hostile_1le's description, they call it the money shift because it when it happens it's gonna cost you money. |

A money shift, for those lucky enough not to have encountered the problem, is when a driver attempts to go up a gear with a manual transmission, in this case from third to fourth, but instead goes down a gear. The term comes from the high expense involved in fixing the consequences of the botched shift.

It’s a shame the computer isn’t smart enough to lock out such a move. Basically hit a wall to prevent a mathematical too high RPM event.

People just need to learn how to shift more precisely. It's already way too easy to drive these modern day manuals as it is.

As it stands, the coupling is impossible for the computer to defeat immediately in a vehicle with an internal combustion engine, even though the ECM does everything it can to prevent the overrev (cut spark, cut fuel), because there is a mechanical delay and revs will overshoot for a short while. If you ask me, this is inherent and should not be fixed. A significant portion of the manual experience is knowing that you are in control of the drivetrain, if you mess up, you can take out the engine. As we say it in Hungary, one can't stay a virgin and have children, too. (Btw I drive an automatic Camaro today, but learned on and drove stick for a long time.)

It’s not a computer thing. It’s a mechanical thing. How can the computer stop you from mis-shifting? Once you mis-shift it is the rear wheels that is pushing the engine to over rev. Even with your foot off the gas pedal the car is making the engine over rev. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The Camaro has a lockout solenoid on 2nd. just like reverse. However it’s only ever used to go from 1 to 4.

Ahh shucks I do that all the time and ever since I bought it new. over 67k miles now. Should be ok to do that as rev match controls it and they rev limiter protects over revving. But anything can happen.

Even that mild lockout is seen as a problem by many who prefer the manual. In addition, it would be much more complex to "extend" that to any downshift pattern that might result in an overrev.

Rev match was off, but it wouldn't have made a difference. At the speed the car was going, the tires carried then engine well above the limiter.
