Yeah I remember when I bought my 2010 Challenger SRT8 (6.1) then few months later the 6.4 came out which was a really nice bump. Almost pulled the trigger back then but didn't.... Then go figure the HellCat! It never ends I tell you. Now I have this 1le beauty and instead of chasing the next I'm going to boost/build on what I have.

There is no way to safely tap into ALL the power and enjoy the handling balance this car has to offer anywhere but the track. The rush of being on the limit is impossible for me to replicate on the street as i'm too paranoid to really enjoy it....and while my own safety isnt much of a concern i really dont want to kill anyone else and carry that guilt the rest of my life , also having the car impounded along with multiple infraction tickets sure aint fun or cheap.

Way i figure it one track day = lawyers fees for one winding out third gear speeding ticket.

Only problem with track days is one usually winds up wanting more power!

Maybe its the track day junkies like me trading up for some ZL1 goodness...

I've always kind of bounced around when it comes to performance cars. (As long as it's domestic.) I had a 2002 Trans AM WS6 back in the day. Also a few C4's and one C5.

My latest acquisition was a 2016 Competition Orange Mustang GT that I purchased new. In honesty it was a really neat car, absolutely nothing wrong with it. I made the mistake of taking a 2016 Camaro SS 2SS out for a test drive. That was it, I knew the Camaro would be coming home with me!

So that's basically my story!

Oh man, the C5Z is PLENTY for me. It's gonna take me quite a few sessions to master that thing around a road course. Especially Pacific Raceways, my home track. It's scary. Don't want to mess up there.
A ZL1 would be so fun but dang is that car heavy. It would wear me out! It's probably got a half ton over my Caddy and this thing is already too much of a pig at 4k lbs.
I can't lie though; accelerating out of the bend and hitting the straight with that 580hp would be AMAZING. Even more so with 650hp. I think even that race track wouldn't allow it's potential to be realized. You'd need the Mulsanne straight!

Shameless plug here. lol. The 1le is quite the track car. Maybe I'm biased?
It finds itself thusly positioned because, in the world of Camaros, the SS 1LE is indeed an exotic. The 1LE package brings magnetorheological dampers, stiffer springs and anti-roll bars, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, big 14.6-inch front brakes with six-piston calipers, and forged aluminum wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 rubber. Foreign supercars, beware; in Turn 1, the SS 1LE matches the 1.11 g’s of grip of the Ferrari 488GTB. In the uphill esses, the Camaro manages a higher average speed (121.6 mph) than the McLaren 570S.

The new Camaro behaves like the Z/28 we lapped two years ago, and most of its sector times are right on the heels of the Z/28’s, not to mention the cars in LL4 and LL5. It has the same supernatural grip and stability and the same super-accurate wheel control, but the 1LE isn’t as nervous as the Z/28. It doesn’t leap and skip over curbing as the Z/28 did, and in slow corners, such as Oak Tree and Bitch, the 1LE’s front end resists breaking free and just sticks. It’s only when the tires get hot and greasy that the Camaro will wag its tail or plow. Even then, it all happens in a progressive and nonthreatening manner.
Like the Cayman GT4, which is less than a second quicker, the SS 1LE lacks any bad dynamic habits. The body control, damping, brakes, and steering all feel right when the nose is aimed into the uphill esses at 129 mph. You’re left to curse the annoying sightlines and concentrate on quick shifts.

To look at the price, it’s clear the SS 1LE doesn’t know it’s not a bona fide exotic. We won’t tell if you won’t.

There is a simple explanation for the large number of listings. These cars are priced way above market. To make matters worse many of these cars have highly individualized mods which don't help things any. Some options like the $2,000 wheel sets have no resale value.

A lot of these may not be serious sellers. If the seller gets his price he sells, but if not they keep the car because they can't afford to take a hit. Resale values on a 2016 SS are weak. Check Edmunds if you don't believe me.

It's a harsh reality but first year depreciation on most vehicles is around 30% while the next two years are about 10% each. If you don't keep a car 3 years, you get burned.

I was looking hard at the 1LE when i found the super deal on my lightly used 2SS.
I hsve to admit it would be hard for me to go out full tilt beating on a brand new car but a used car that someone else ate the first two years of depreciation on?

I dont think i'm going to need any more power either .. this car has way more than my old BMW Z3 track car so i should be good for awhile.

~I signed up for a stupid rewards card for GM points so now I have to buy something new to make it worth it, which I don't think I'll ever be able to afford.
I'd love a new 1Le but with my two other cars and a baby on the way, I don't think it's in my cards...
Those points work on certified pre-owned cars, yeah? And can't I buy points off other people?
Maybe I do have a chance...

People also sometimes look at a $600 a month car payment, and another $100-$150 on top of that for insurance and go "You know, $700 a month is a lot to tie up in this car" and then trade it in.

Yeah...just to see the SS sit in the garage for another 8 weeks til the snow melts.

The 1LE is a great car, if you don't mind driving an M6 on a car with a rather stiff suspension. IMO, if you don't take it to the track once a month it is a waste. If you have a 2016 SS wanting to sell and buy an 1LE is a sure trip to unhappiness.

Hahaha, I have no problem maxing the card out, it's using the points and spending the money on a new sports car that's the issue. I'm young and dumb!

I do have to say. My list of cars that I've owned is a bit lengthy because of.. COUGH.. being so young and all. But most recent (20 years) Jetta VR6, G35 coupe, G37s coupe, Challenger SRT8, Ford 6.7 Turbo Diesel, 67 Chevelle SS 396 w/ 4speed Muncie (garage queen) and now the 1le.. I have to say it is either the funnest car I've ever driven or I've been out of the game too long. When driving the 1le in touring mode it very comparable to the other SS's but when you switch to Track mode and the steering turns to like manual steering, the suspension stiffens up and the exhaust starts to scream is like being on a track all day long. Abiding all street laws of course.
