I am 61 years old.
In the late 80's I had a 1967 Camero, fuel injected 350, 4 speed rockcrusher trans, lowered, flared fender wells with really loud exhaust. I kept getting stopped in it, and it was suggested that if i want to complete probation at my new job, i get rid of the car, which I did. 35 years later, i'm now retired. I'm thinking now is a good time to build a 68 Camero, (never liked the wing window on my 67). I'm thinking full on pro touring with a LS9, T56, Roadster shop full frame, you get the idea. So I find a rust free Camero in Arizona, and have it shipped to me. I buy a rotisserie and start to tear into the car. Well i severely underestimated my work related injuries, and ended up back on pain meds. I realize I have missed my window of opportunity to build my dream car. So what to do? I had no idea of the difference between the SS, RS, Z28, ZL1. I went to the Good Guys show at the Pleasanton Fair Grounds and ran into a couple guys. Im not sure of the years, but both their cars looked new. One guy had a Z28, the other guy had an SS. These guys were a wealth of knowledge!! Buy the end of the discussion, i had decided to buy a 2017 ZL1. Went home and listed some of my toys I had not used in years for sale. Just sold the 68 Camero, the 67 Firebird is still for sale, and I finally decided to sell my Kawasaki ZX12. I went to several different dealerships and got on their list to order a ZL1. Last week I placed my order, Hyper Blue with every option on the list. Now waiting in line with everyone else...... |

Nodding my head at those detested wing windows.......I fly my own airplane, drive vehicles from the Big3 and Porsche, and also contemplated building a pro touring '68 Camaro. Having owned several Porsches and C6 Corvettes I just could not meld with either of those crowds. Memories of care free days and my '67 and '69 Chevelle SS396 drew me back to those days of perceived (raw) horsepower and cars that would not stop or turn. On a whim I bought a ZL1 and could not be happier! It mirrors the looks of a '68 Camaro, and it stops and turns bone stock! Performance adequate enough not to mod beyond factory warranty parameters. Now the new ZL1 on horizon with a little more performance, and, 10 speed auto.......eventually! GM dragging out availability of A10 to the chagrin of many. Among those bummed by 2017 availabity of A10 ZL1 is my son. My current ZL1 is being passed on to number one son. It will interesting when both in hands of family and compare. Until then........ |

Great 1st post...glad you found the forum.
I was born in 69 & always wanted a Firebird of that vintage...the wife had a 97 Formula & it was in OK car. I never really considered it anything special other than a looker, which it was. Would love to see a pic of the 67. Funny you mention Kawasaki...never got into the street scene, but I used to cut a lot of trails and been looking into the new KTM's for a new ride to scoot around the ranch. We hunt 7000 acres down here & are allowed to ride scooters in the off season. I grew up around BMW's when it comes to two wheeled street machines...love that opposed engine design. Quote:

[/URL]The original owner drove this to the ranch and parked it in my barn 10 years ago. He bought it when he was 16. He blew up the motor years ago, and replaced it with a 400 ci motor and turbo 350 out of a 68 GTO. I bought it from him, and its been sitting ever since. FYI, this is my first attempt at posting a picture. hope it works

I am retired and that makes me impatient. So I couldn't wait until november and bought a 16 Z06 Convertible A8 a couple of weeks ago when the $20,000 discounts happened.

I'm 44. Been looking at the 6th gen Camaro since they introduced them last year. Was wanting a SS until I started reading more about the ZL1.
Now I'm pretty sure that's the ticket. Probably will wait until next summer. I currently have a 89 Turbo Trans Am that I've had since I was 18 (original owner) that I'm getting ready to sell to make room for a ZL1. |
