Here are a few videos from the PCA HPDE on Memorial day and Tuesday at Watkins Glen. This was my first ever trip to the Glen, I went with a few other guys from Southern Indiana (750 miles each way!). The track is amazing, completely worth the trip. However, the weather wasn't exactly ideal. It rained all morning on Monday, then did begin to clear up around lunch, and was dry by the last session on Monday. Tuesday it rained off and on all day.
I was only able to get in one session on the slicks, which was The last session of the day Monday. Traffic was significant, so lap times weren't representative of what the car can do.... plus this was my first ever fully dry session at the track. Please remember, speedometer on slicks reads 5.5% fast due to smaller OD wheel/tire. Here is the full session on Yokohama take-off slicks: Best Lap on Yokohama take-off slicks: The session on RE71R's was the last session of the two days. The track was 90% dry, but rain was still spitting. RE71R's are just insane tires in the wet, even with almost no tread left they still offer amazing grip in the wet and dry. Here is the full session on RE71R's: Best Lap on RE71R's: |

Great track. Feels very much like Mosport, but longer. Albeit Mosport is faster. Thx for posting the vids Provoste and nice driving. What was this chime/alarm that went off during your best RE71R lap? BTW, very impressive pace on those as compared to slicks.
EDIT: the track is narrow with Armco. You hit it you have to pay for it lol! |

Ha, my phone started ringing through the Bluetooth. Yeah, last vid on RE71R was on day 2 and highlights pace improvement from time on track. Only session on slicks was my first fully dry session ever at the track. Normally I wouldn't have thrown slicks on until later... but forecast looked decidedly dire!

How many days/heat cycles on those RE71Rs?
They seemed to push a wee bit compared to slicks but the car looked super composed thru the esses which is impressive. Your driving is very impressive too. If I were to make one suggestion: enter the carousel coming out of the Bus Stop a bit tighter - from mid track. Ditto the next L hander. Mike Skeen has tons of vids on his YouTube channel and his lines are impeccable. Superb driver! I always watch his vids before visiting a new venue. Cheers! |

Nice track and great driving ! I wonder what makes the biggest difference between the slicks and the RE71Rs, in terms of lap times (3 seconds on a 2 minute lap in this case) : The sticky compound? or the fact that you lose about 7 lbs on rotational mass on each corner compared to OEM setup?
![]() When I had the Trofeo Rs I could definitely tell the car was accelerating a lot faster than the OEM and NT01s on straightaways b/c of the 4-5 lbs weight difference of the tires (305 RE71Rs vs 325/305 NT01s and even more with OEM wheels and tires). Shorter gears with the 18 or 19" wheels also help. I am also going back to Ridge this Sunday and will have a chance to test the adjusted camber this time, yay!

Re: the carousel line- I was experimenting with how early I could pick up the throttle in the bustop and stay flat over the righthand curbing. By doing so- it carries the car a little wide on entry to the carousel. I watched Peter Krause and Ross Bentley's track walk prior to the event where they talk about attacking the curbing in the bustop. Thanks for the feedback, I've watched plenty of Skeen as well. The most helpful videos for me were Corey Friedman in a 996/997 cup & RSR. |

If/when my OEM wheel and tires sell, I will get another set of Apex wheels , most likely on 19" sizes but 18" is also tempting because of the wider availability of the used slicks. It would be fun to make a back to back comparison on certain tracks. I want to go to PIR( Portland International Raceway) sometime if I ever do that, it looks like a super smooth track where I can benefit from having extra cubicles

Yesterday's event at the Ridge (RMP) was very crowded so I couldn't get enough time to improve my previous best lap. However, car felt better with additional camber
I did my best lap after the warm up lap and -as you can clearly see in the video- I forgot to hit the "define finish lap" or "start recording" sorry for the shaky videoWithout the miss-shift and/or few more laps I believe I could've seen 1:52s easily
