The Chinese and other foreign manufacturers are ABSOLUTELY Brilliant when it comes to making KNOCKOFFS of higher quality products. Go to any SEMA show and you can see chinese knockoffs of KOOKS headers that to the naked eye look very very similar to REAL thing for under 200 dollars.

In reality the materials used are generally substandard and the worksmanship is inconsistent and WILL NOT stand the test of time.

I have no problem paying for a part that improves reliability in the particular area that it's addressing. Similar to the Katech vs. GM oil pump debate. Buy once cry once. I'd rather replace something and never think about it again nor worry about it every time I go for a drive wondering if this will be that once time something grenades, breaks, cracks, splits, etc.
Totally agree fellas…there are only top shelf parts on my car and not a single Chinese component. My tstat housing arrived in the AMP box…?!? I just assumed they (Speed Eng) were willing to sell it for less and are buying at wholesale from AMP. So I figured if it was the same one why pay retail.

Just because it's more expensive doesn't mean it's better. Soooooo many companies re-brand the same product and stamp their name on it and mark the price up. Or have a part made in the same factory that the real on is made in with the same tooling. I bet the Speed Engineering part and the AMP part are identical and made in the same place.

For instance AMP comes with a MotoRad 160 Thermostat which is a $6 part on amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/Motorad-2000-.../dp/B000C5CD0I

Your telling me that isn't a cheap overseas part? Re-naming is the game

I agree on other parts making sure they are quality top tier parts and I will only put quality parts on my car .......but there are some that I do my research and are clearly the same as others charging much more.

My thoughts exactly. The housing is IDENTICAL and even came in an AMP box.

I will add that the AMP housing is machined out of a billet and not cast for what it's worth.

It's not billet, but it accomplishes the purpose of being more durable and is 1/2 the cost once you buy it and your flavor of Gen IV thermostat... I'm going this route.

No more risk of the plastic housing cracking either.

The option to use a more universal LS2/LS3 style thermostat assembly itself is a pretty nice feature as well. I wound up going with a factory GM 186* instead of their 160* which is still a step down in temp from the 194* that our cars come with provided by DMS themselves. Made the changes in HPTuners to make the most out of the new lower temps. Peace of mind and a worthwhile mod overall for a minimal amount of money.
nice piece. I might have to get one shortly since my belt will be getting a little tighter due to my new spacers. BTW, what was the Torque specs on the bolts?

Thanks man! I have really enjoyed since I got it and to date I have had zero issues whatsoever with it.

As far as torque specs goes, I am the last person you want to ask for torque specs because I don't torque anything outside of internals to specs on my engines and I'll tell anyone and everyone to follow German torque specs (Guttentite)

Just remember Guttentite doesn’t always work with aluminum threads and steel bolts especially after several removals of sorts, aluminum and steel hate each other with a passion!

Oh yeah, I've been well aware of that for years now. The majority of my tenure in wrenching professionally, I've been dealing with aluminum blocks or aluminum heads/ steel fasteners. Over the years, you adapt a "feel" as you tighten things down. So personally I've never had an issue dealing with that sort of stuff. A few odds and ends here, but such is the nature of working with soft aluminum.

I also have the DMS housing and agree it's great. I purchased it after my belt shredded at VIR. It took out the OE thermostat housing. I went with the Lingenfelter 174* Thermostat. It's made by Motorad, same as the 160* that comes with the DMS housing.
