OP: been there done that, locked myself out, mechanical reentry, powered the under-hood posts to pop the trunk from the door button. Won't do that again, maybe.

This is normal after a battery disconnect. If you try and start the car from dead/disconnect it will wake up but fail to crank.

You have to wake the car up first, either by

1. doing as you did by trying to start it, or
2. with foot OFF the brake, holding the start button for 5 seconds to wake the car up into key-on maintenance mode where CEL stays lit (w/o codes), then goes out after you then start the car normally from this state.

Maybe it's a convertible software thing, but I have found the modules to be a bit more stable using the latter approach and not throw random false-positive codes.
