love the m6, drove an A10 and was unimpressed with the automatic.. very laggy. if it was a DCT then that would of been better.

For me its the M6, I have a ZLE and a Z06 and both are a M6. Im not looking to drag race, its more about the driving experience. If my purpose was to race everyone at stop lights I would get the A10.

The A10 shifts are the opposite of laggy. No idea what car you were driving.

let me clarify, in manual shift mode I found the A10 to be sluggish. You're right in full auto, the automatic is very fast with the shifts.

The Corvette is definitely quicker from a dead stop but I have to admit it can get a little boring to drive. And contrary to what anyone tells you, using the paddle shifters to change gears is not even close to driving a true manual transmission.

My ZL1, on the other hand, feels big and heavy compared to the Corvette, but I feel like I have more control over what the car does. I'm more connected to the car because I'm constantly having to think about what gear I'm in and what gear I will need to be in next. The Corvette is essentially point and shoot.

I'm still on the fence as to which car is more fun to drive. Both have their pluses and minuses. If the Corvette had a traditional manual transmission option, no question I would have ordered it with one. To me, a manual C8 would have been as close to the perfect sports car as one can get.
Agree. Too bad you can’t even discuss that subject on the Corvette forum without it getting shut down. Interesting that you are unsure which one you prefer. I’m in a ZL1 and having a blast, but have a C8 on order. Still on the fence if I want it.

OP - if you enjoy a manual, the ZL1 is a hoot with the M6.

But, that is not the case in my household as I have 2 other cars/ trucks to chose from with auto transmissions to drive. My weekend toy and fair weather summer driver is my M6 ZLE. I personally wouldn’t have it any other way. If traffic is heavy, weather is, poor, or I have a lot of stops to make, the ZLE stays in the garage. Having said all that, the M6 is this ZLE is butter smooth for me (once warmed up to driving temps) and with the active rev matching is so simple to drive it really is so much more fun for me that I couldn’t imagine not having it in this car. Now, there is a hiccup in this M6 in the ZL1... it takes a little getting used to because it is a little tricky at first. There is a built in hesitation off idle that takes a little re-learning at first to get the timing just right. Once you figure out just what this car wants as far as throttle input and clutch release speed, it becomes second nature and is just fine.
Agreed.

My ZLE 6m is a toy. One the street, especially, I think the manual is more fun. I am not really ever going to drive it in crazy traffic, and if it happens now and then, its not a big deal.

Agree also on the downshift rev matching. This is a lot of fun.

I know this is becoming less popular of an opinion, but to me, if you are not into drag racing, if you just want a fun car, manual is the only way to go..

Would like to get an auto CTS V someday though as a daily.

M6 all the way for me too. If this car was only available in auto I would not have bought one.

I will just mention some negatives here

Throttle/clutch modulation always felt very weird and I was never consistent in slow take off. With a 103TB & tune it now drives very consistent and is much more easier at take off.

A quick 4-5 shift needs more concentration or I tend to miss shift

Everything else is really good

Love the M6 in my ZL1

It was the main reason I purchased this car... Most of my vehicle have all been M cars... when possible. My GTS is auto DCT and I love how it works but an M would have been super cool..

Overall the ZL1 with an M is just perfect. You decide when to shift and you control how the power gets put down. You just drive the car.

The M6 is a dream. TR6060 calibrated to perfection in our cars. Deliberate placement of gears.

Couldn't own my ZLE without it. #savethemanuals

Drove an M6 ZL1 12k mostly hwy miles over 2 years during good weather. Absolutely loved it, manual isn’t for everyone but it’s exactly right for me in muscle/pony cars.

For track use, the 6 speed is fantastic. Although I am used to heel toe downshifting, once I tried the rev match feature, I was hooked and never looked back. The no-lift shift is also a nice feature for the track. The issue that I have with the 10 speed automatic transmission on the track is that you don't have the same control over what gear you are in. Relying on the computer to do the shifting is pretty good, but there are times when I would select a different gear. For example, sometimes I find it quicker to accelerate out of a corner in 3rd vs. 2nd gear if I means that I can go to full throttle in 3rd gear early and without loosing traction like might happen if a go full throttle coming out of the same turn in 2nd gear. I also find that with torque converter transmissions, that there is a bit of delay on downshifting from when the paddle is pulled to when the lower gear is engaged.
I agree that on track it is sometimes better to be in 3rd when it wouldn't seem to be, from an RPM standpoint. But with my M6 ZLE, I admit I'm still not comfortable turning all DSC off, no PTM, nothing.

A GREAT driver will be fastest with everything FULL off, but a very good driver will be at higher risk of dangerous loss of control at high speed--this car will bite you.

PTM in Race mode makes it possible to go full throttle right after the apex coming out of turns, and achieve very fast lap times. With PTM Race done right, I find I can stay in 2nd and achieve a near perfect max-acceleration corner exit that good drivers in high HP RWD non-PTM cars cannot achieve consistently. They're working hard to control wheel spin and oversteer, while you pull away. It's a real advantage.

M6 is really good in the ZL1: great performance, fun to drive, happy with SC engine. I do not daily drive (DD) mine. I have owned multiple AT performance cars and in many situations, the tranny just isn’t in the optimal gear. The engineers can’t design for/cover every possible set of conditions. I’m not a great driver, but I do know what’s coming up next and can control the tranny gear selection. If I had to DD a ZL1 in traffic, I’d opt for the A10. Manual sports cars are just flat out fun to drive!!
