True but the thing that gets over looked is efficiency. P1SC is going to start increasing IAT's substantially once turned up much. Pray said even the P1x he tuned for a customer was hitting 160 degree IAT's at the end of a 1/4 mile run on a 65 degree day. That was spraying meth and the car made around 660whp....went 10.0 @ 139. So I guess it comes down to how you use it. Street car with ample cooling time between runs and you might be able to keep timing from being pulled.
Oldman, Just curious if you did any data-logging between the P1SC and D1 to see a difference in IAT's after hard runs?

I believe it. Just for example Im running a 3.7 pulley on my P1SC. I was data logging and according to HPTuners my ambient was 86. I don't know how accurate that sensor is because sometimes it's higher than the MyLink ambient temp. Also the Ambient sensor is not far from my Racebypass that's spewing a ton of hot air out of it while it's open. A 3rd gear pull to redline and my IAT hit 131 at 9.8lbs of boost Its' been in the 90's just about every day and my IAT is always 8 to 10 degrees over that so it sucks seeing 100+ on just driving around. If you roll into it even briefly I'll see 120+ . I have often wondered what a D1x IAT's would look like at the same boost.

I agree that if this was a Texas mile, autoX, silverstate challenge, east texas 69 mile, or a road race. I would not spec a 3.7 pulley on a stock engine. I'd spec something like I'm building a forged engine with heads, cam, headers, ported MSD, TB, stage II, d1x and run the MINIMUM of boost needed to achieve the hp goals. That said my type of build and a small pulley build for Joe Street, the small pulley P1SC or P1X on stock engine is going to be far more responsive, far cheaper, probably faster. If I can get on E70 707 sae dynojet HP, I'm done. I think with my setup it will be a 4" pulley d1x, built engine, 9 or 10 PSI. I know famous last words "I'm done looking for more HP". LOL After which I'll do things like driveshafts, widen stock rims or 19 inch rims with 325, lower the rear only 3/4". Heck for a while I may even run a street "drag pack", that would be a drag pack look but with 220 wear radial tires with some sidewall, say something like 225 /60s in the front 305s /50s in the rear.... Just for grins.. No cookie cutters, but a least the kinda of look like a 60 setup with cookie cutters in the front and N50s in the back.. very classic 69 Camaro / 71 split bumper drive-in looks.

I will remove the shrouding on the two hood heat extractors and I'll probably add in a metal heat shield between the driver's header and the air filter. At some point I can see a pusher fan in front of the intercooler just to keep air always moving thru. This LT1 gen 6 Camaro seems to run hot in the engine compartment vs any car I ever owned, including a 440 Dart. I've been working on a slow A/C leak so I'm under the hood more than I care to be and it is just a BALL of HEAT, there. I may even look at wrapping my headers (not something I like). and / or an after market hood with vents of any type.

Yeah I think not only is the Race IC a much larger core but on top of that you have such a larger opening to get that air into it. I bet if I removed that bumper behind the fascia and took some of that plasic covering out of there I could probably drop 10 degrees.
![]() What is removing the hood vent shrouding your talking about Oldman?

The first log is a 3rd gear log on the highway. Second was 5th gear dyno pull. My IAT’s seem much lower than yours? I am going to the track Friday for a log too. Would like to see what it does by the end of the 1/4.
EDIT. sorry for the sideways pictures. The one with 97 ambient was the highway pull.

Am I reading that correctly? Your IAT's are only 5 to 15 over ambient under WOT / Redline @ 10psi?

Crazy right? I just checked and it’s very similar throughout all of my logs, including this kit on my last M6 car. On the last car they were SLIGHTLY higher but still never more than about 20-25 over ambient at redline.

Wow. What is your IAT at just driving around normally? Heck I'm 7 to 10 over ambient in just driving like granny. I would kill to see only 20-25 over ambient at redline.

If this is accurate, which I don’t see how or why it wouldn’t be, now I’m really wanting to start to dig in and see why and how it could be that much different with the race IC. I can’t find documentation as to an actual size difference, but it does seem to be a decent amount bigger. Also if what I’m reading is right, it’s a 3 core vs a 2 core. Looking at the pictures you sent me before it does also appear that I have way more air hitting mine as well.

Something interesting I just realized Eyefixstuff.
I noticed you have an Ambient Air and an IAT2 in your log as do I. I have been comparing my IAT's to the Ambient one only. If I compare my log to the IAT2 value Im closer to you at being 25 over IAT2. My Log before this one was 16 degrees over IAT2. Looking at your first and 2nd log. 1st log you are 16 degrees over Ambient and only 5 over IAT2. (Ambient was 97. FOR REAL? )2nd Log you are 33 degrees over Ambient and 15 over IAT2. The question is. Where is the IAT2 temp being taken from? |
