And usually, happens on LONG highway pulls... not dyno runs. You will simply butt the rings together. The middle ring land will crack. You end up with blow by and lack of power on that hole. Thankfully, then all you have to do is swap the pistons out for a forged set. (Or replace that slug with another stock one, and re-gap rings while in there) So really not the end of the day. What HE has is totally different..... that's a bucket of parts. Gonna need at least a set of rods, pistons, crank, and possible block and head. Usually when you have one let go like that, its a total write off. |

This totally sucks and I wouldn't blame the tuner at all since the A/F ratio, timing, knock was all good. The tuner did his job correctly and made sure all the parameters were in check.
I see this as a manufacturer defect at that tolerance level. |

Wow, I really feel bad for the guy. Definitely sounds like something was wrong that only came to light during the process and it's not like he can do anything about it except spend a ton of $ to make his car a complete bad ass machine. I just looked at his channel to see if he responded to my question and this is what he wrote:
"...chunks of piston, rod, bearings, oil pan, chunks of block and a wrist pin that hit the floor. I'm sure the bottom of the failed cylinder has a pretty impressive hole. I'll find out soon when we pull the engine out."

Ouch... I'm pushing 630 as well... So much out there at more power with stock bottom end and they're still kicking. Considering knock, afr, and boost looked ok through the run I'm guessing something was just a little messed up and this blew the issue sky high (no pun intended)
Hopefully we get some insight and put some minds at ease... mind included O.o |

The other thing that I noticed just now in the comment of his video was that this guy said he only has 91 octane in his state "but the Meth makes it effectively like 100 octane ish I believe". If his meth injection setup malfunctioned or he ran out of meth, adios.

I didn't listen to the entire thing but the guy clarified that he was just using it for cooling.

Had one blow recently here at my local shop. They were installing a Maggie on a 16 SS A8 and when they got on the dyno at about 515hp it popped a ring. Don't know the owner of the car but I feel their pain.

We have a good handful of FI gen6's in the hands of some abusive folk... I'm guessing these are just the few bad eggs some people get unlucky with :/ |

Better on the dyno than at the track!
I just left ADM talking about this issue, starting to see LT1 pistons failing on FI/SC cars. I am very close to this car on HP and TQ, a little over 600 and 640 tq and run the car hard at the drags. The cars that have had piston issues have not done any head work and my theory is too much compression - 11.5. I had my heads opened up and running 10.3 psi on compression. I considered new forged pistons but think I will wait and see... Anyone else seen any piston issues on SC LT1? The ring gap was measured on one of the pistons that blew and measured .013 and should be .030, may be an issue.
