Flat plane crank doesn't make sense in an OHV engine. The valve train won't be stable enough to take advantage of the rev capability.

Edit: This could be a Cadillac specific engine and move to a DOHC engine.

GM has already said a DTC system that could handle the torque of the LT4 would be too heavy. They already have the 8 speed auto and have been working on 9 and 10 speeds with Ford.

I find it suspicious that Ford grabbed international auto headlines with the 5.2 FPC and now someone is claiming that GM is also.

Seems like a desperate "me too! me too!"

I think it would be an awesome motor, especially if they kept the HP north of 525-ish. It would be a good replacement for the fail-prone LS7 as a high HP N/A option.

it's not that simple. they would have change the compression ratio, camshaft profiles, etc.

it would be a new motor. they would probably stick with hypereutectic pistons in a n/a motor as well as they have a more optimum thermal expansion coefficient and you don't need a forged piston in that power range at all.

you pull the blower off and lt4 and you probably just have a 400-425hp motor.

my ls7 lasted perfectly for 5 years but I was stock. I did inspect the valve train geometry based on the paranoia around the platform though.

I agree, it would be much more complex than just 'removing a blower'. But I was referencing the forged internals in particular for strength and reliability for an N/A motor.

For the money the Gen 5 Camaro Z28 is underpowered. That car is in dire need of 625 hp.
