Anyone Swedish, please correct me here.

So the system takes into account how rich you are as to how much of a fine you get. For example a poor man making 10,000 a year gets a $10 speeding ticket like here in the US.. You make $100,000 a year you pay $200, a normal speeding ticket including an arrest and jail time perhaps, unless you are are a movie star then you spend far less time in prison..

So for this guy, $962,000 is like a $200 speeding ticket? This guy must be loaded...lol..

Perhaps he was trying to get enough speed up for the "hop"?

Didn't know a Benz had such crappy brakes ... 1/2 mile to stop when going 180, he should of had a Camaro with Brembo's ...

The lesson you are all missing here is this: There is ONE camera in Switzerland, on the A12 (between Bern and Lausanne) that will capture you at speeds over 125 mph - every other camera is INEFFECTIVE AT SPEEDS OVER 125...So, everyone can go 130+ and NOT GET A TICKET! Go Speed Racer --GO!

Thank you to the Swiss Police for telling us where NOT to speed.

Point of order: The article said he was going 180mph, and it took the police almost a half a mile to stop him.
At 180mph you would cover a 1/2 mile in 10 seconds,I'd say that was a pretty fast grab,or maybe I smell BS.

On a serious note though, how badass must it feel to be in the drivers seat going 180. Slightly jealous
Kinda of. More and more the germans have been adding zones with speed limits in them. Stretchs of roads slow down to 100 kilometers and some at 130. Not only that but anytime you are going over 130 clicks you are automatically liable for anything that happens.

So yes you can go really really fast if you want, but be warned there are plenty of places that restrict speed and liability is an issue also.

this was in Minnesota in July 2010: http://dailyme.com/story/20100812000...er-county.html

"The highest speed ticketed was 178 mph in Wadena County. The Wadena County Sheriff's Office issued the ticket to the driver of a Corvette. The speed was self-reported by the vehicle's passenger, according to the Department of Public Safety."

self reported by the passenger ????

OK I'll correct you.

1) The speeding occured in Switzerland. It's their law, not ours.

In Sweden it's "flat rate", so the highest fine is about $550.

2) I know for sure Switzerland and Finland has this system. Not sure about any other Euro countries.

Considering he went to jail anyway, and got his car confiscated,....I would have just kept on going! I think they actually caught him because he chose to stop. There was no mention of road-blocks or anything of that sort, so he must had chose to stop. Cops won't be stopping ANYONE going 180mph without some sort of road trap in place. Going that fast, you'd disappear from they're view within a few seconds, considering how slow they're cars are, unless they're using the chopper or an exotic cop car. If I knew I was going to jail and my car was going to be taken,....I was have just kept going in an attempt to outrun them.

From experience,....it has been done before. But that's besides the point, but boy was that fine high!
