The real story....

Hey guys, I know the driver of the GT and actually just spent a couple of days driving with him at Autobahn CC in Joliet.

He tracks a GT350R and can really hustle it around any track. Exceptional driver.

He had just taken delivery of the GT, the ZL1 filming it was a friend of his, he was driving the GT at about 6/10ths (think..."I'm still breaking this in.") Several of us watched the video together the night between our track days.

One of the other guys in our group drives a Boss 302S on the track, also a great driver, but he will occasionally roll out his 2005 GT40 for a session or two. I got a chance to drive his GT40 one night. Even the old school GT is an amazing car. I didn't drive it on the track, just the paddock and the road around the track linking up all the garagemahals, but I might have busted the paddock speed limit a couple of times.... It is quite a car, made me wish I had my FFR GTM with me...

Comparing the new GT (or old one for that matter) to any Camaro - even our ZL1 1LE's - isn't going to end well in any rational discussion. It's just not.

I love tracking my Z/28, and can't wait to get my hands on my ZL1 1LE, but I'll be content with dicing it up with the Mustangs. THAT we can compare with and compete with any day, any version, any track.

Exactly, two very different animals! Although, I give Luke (ZL1-driver) all due respect.

Makes total sense and it should be obvious that you can't draw conclusions from amateur track day videos because you don't know how hard the car is being driven or the skill of the driver.

The GT is one hell of an engineering effort and interesting for sure. At $400k plus ADM there are a lot of cars to consider and my lust would be Ferrari for that kind of money. If you can afford one its safe to say you probably have you finances in order and this is one of many cars in the garage.

Say what you want about the new Ford GT. Even if it was affordable to me, I'd still pass on it. Looks sexy as hell and puts down plenty of power but the sound of a V6 just kills it for me. Granted, I know it's all done in an effort to save as much weight as possible and provide THE BEST power to weight ratio (being a track car and all). Just not my thing.

No exhaust work in the world can make it sound like a V8. The tone of a V8 is what I definitely love in a car. V10s and V12s just sound cheesy to me, as do V6s.
