i can understand your disappointment in your "local" 5th gen owners but the majority of owners are not like the people you encountered at the car show..
most are down to earth people that are just enjoying their time with the car. the idiots that rev and chrome out their car are one in a few.

I have been to tons of car shows, and I completely agree with the OP.

By far the lamest people I have ever met own 5th Gens. (Some really cool people as well, don't get me wrong.) There are people in these forums who basically have painted engine covers and stick on Pep Boys stuff and they post pictures of all the car shows they have gotten trophies at.

Also, like has been said, I think this car attracts a lot of first time muscle car buyers. This is a good thing and a curse. It helps promote a new generation, but then it also leads to some pretty stupid questions and also beliefs. (I even saw a thread about someone painting the underside of their car as a mod because it makes the car smoother or more aerodynamic or something. Seriously?!)

The 5th Gen Camaro is a cool car, but it's not Baby Dinosaur Kicking Jesus returned to earth, it's a car. They have probably made more than 400,000 by now. You are not special, you are not in the automotive elite. You are a member of a community and you really only have to objectively look around at many forums to see that the 5th Gen Camaro really does get a lot of flak.

I love my car, but I am honestly embarrassed to assemble in public with some of these people. I actually just bought a 70 Chevelle so that I can feel like a legitimate car guy again.

You're going to find those kind of people in all groups, clubs, committees, populations, etc. I've never been to a car show, ever, but I can kind of relate what some of you are saying to situations you see at the gym.

Some guys like to converse in the gym, and some like to stick to themselves as they get in, get their workout in quick, and get out. The guys who converse quite often think those quiet guys are stuck up a-holes when really if they talked to them they'd find a completely different story, but until they do they have this certain perception of them.

Goes the same with groups. If a few guys are hanging out together in a section of the gym wearing all BSN or Muscletech gear, acting tough by flexing and posing in the mirror and looking menacingly at others (haha exaggeration I know), and only talking amongst themselves the other guys in the gym get the feeling some of you do about the 5th gen owners at this car show. "Why do I associate myself with these kind of people?"

Everyone has to put up with these people/situations in ALL walks of life, whether we like it or not.

I agree that some of the 5th generation owners do nothing but complain and think they're owed all the attention in the world. For example; the "I don't get as much compliments on my car anymore!" Seriously? WGAS. A lot of people just bought a 5th gen just for the attention.

But then on the other hand, there's a lot of really cool 5th gen owners on this site.

I guess it just depends on who you interact with.

This. Totally. So sick of idiots it's unreal. When I go to car shows and see 5th gen owners who disdain to hang around with us awesomely parked up 5th gen people I wonder wtf is wrong with them. Our 5th gens are so obviously the coolest cars there we park with lots of space between us so the gawkers have plenty of room to gawk and drool, and it's too bad for the loser lost sheep that he doesn't want to be cool with us. Poor schmuck. If he wants to hang around with the pt cruiser crowd, it's his choice but he's welcome to come be with us and let our cool rub off on him anytime!

have a nice day, OP

Nope. I don't wave to anyone on the road, unless it is a person I actually know.

Seems to me, the OP needs to bring this up with his local "club", if it bothers him that much.

I have grown to really dislike 5th gen camaro owners. Sorry if this hurts people's feelings, but I'm gonna get this out.

In addition to the mostly pointless nonsense on the forums, my local car show has also left me annoyed. I have been going to this show for 10+ years. Since I got my 5th gen, I have continued to park with some of buddies I have made over the years, ranging from a 4th gen LT1 to an old Nova to a straight up army Jeep. We walk around the show and check out all the cars, chat, share stories, and hang out.

Then we have the 5th gen crew. They constantly wave me over to park near them when I roll in, but I snub them every time.

They gather at the show, created their own section away from everyone else. They take up more parking spaces than necessary (surprise surprise) and try to prevent others from parking in "their area". They have their own lame "5th gen" tshirts, and congregate in a little huddle like a high school clique. They don't make an effort to walk around the show or talk to others. A few of them need to start their cars and rev their awful, raspy sounding home brew exhaust. Not even the pro-street Chevelles do this. The king of their group actually has a cold air intake that he installed himself! Whoa! The appearance master of the group has a camaro that has every possible appendage and body piece converted to chrome. The car blinds people when it is sunny out. All the while, they look down and act smug towards the car show visitors that don't have muscle cars that just came to enjoy the night. As the show concludes, they incessantly rev and peel out of the parking lot, leaving on an even more obnoxious note.

Not sure what it is about this car, but this crowd is very disappointing. The 5th gen camaro is just another muscle car. It is not "better" than anything else out there, it's just another platform. Being one of the tens of thouasans of people that owns one does not put you in some sort of exclusive club. It is still just a car. Get over yourselves.
It happens with every single car out there man. Go buy a civic, old cop car, escalade, corvette, scion anything. It's just the facts. It happens. Just deal with it, or maybe you should not worry about other peoples actions so much and rather focus on yourself.

Part of it is utter dislike from many in the community. The other is the 5th gen attracted a TON of first time owners that have no understanding of the heritage and the sense of community that goes with it.

Half of the 5th gen crowd distance themselves while the other half get shunned because it's too heavy or it isn't REALLY an Fbody or whatever other excuse.

Also when it comes to shows the Camaro has DOMINATED over the last 3 yrs and in many cases for no good reason. I'm sorry i love Camaros but, that does not mean that every Camaro that shows up with a painted engine cover and nothing else deserves to WIN.. The ZL1 is a bad machine but i almost threw up 2 weeks ago when i saw a BONE STOCK just off the showroom floor ZL1 win a trophy up against cars with 30k in mods on them.

Sorry but, no modern stock car deserves to win at a classic , hotrod & muscle car show.

This is a huge reason people hate the 5th gen crowd and in turn they hate back.
These so-called first time owners are exactly what companies want tho. Face it, every car company wants the x amount of loyal customers true. But they all just love bringing over people based solely on the look or feel of a car. Look at how many women in particular dumped their Mustangs to get a Camaro ever since the 5th Gen showed up. You don't need to know everything about a cars history or heritage or platform to love it just as much, if not more, than someone who does know all that.

Years and years ago the Harley crowd made the same complaints. That you could go and buy a Harley Davidson t-shirt from K-Mart and have never owned a motorcycle in your life. But still it brings revenue, attention, and appreciation to HD. And it shows support.

And BTW, a car show is about the best looking and cleanest car. So if a Camaro wins, it could be corruption...or it could be that it was indeed the best looking and cleanest car there. Just because you threw $30,000 in mods at your car doesn't mean it looks better than a bone stock car. It's not about money spent on mods, it is about the car that deserves to win.

I find it funny that a lot of people are adding non-content sarcastic posts...and those same members seem to be the ones calling for this thread to be shut down because of loss of relevance. Ironic eh? Fact is that there are still some of us that find this thread interesting and relevant to whats going on in our community. If you can't respect that then fine. But don't say the thread isn't important when there are still members trying to sift through your nonsense drivel to keep a worthwhile conversation going. This thread is 7 pages long where it should be around 3 pages. And it isn't the OP's fault...it is because of the disrespectful members who are muddying it up. If you personally don't find the content stimulating, then instead of adding your filler, just pass it and find a thread that does interest you.

If you kept your cool and acted like a human, the cops would pretty much let us do our thing. This tradition had been going on since the 50's.
Sadly, that tradition died a few years ago because of the ****tards you talk about. The police, I being one of them, had to shut it down. I hated it with all my soul as I had spent many many years enjoying this once great tradition. It was great seeing classic muscle, modern muscle, rice, low riders, hoopties, etc hanging out and sharing a common bond........cars.
But times change...and people change...and attitudes change. I dont know if its the too long rope of freedom we are allowed in this country or too many single parent familys or perscription drug abuse or what. But something has given this world a privileged, arrogant, me first, instant respect , self gratification attitude that floors me. And its those same goofs that would come drunk, doped up or high on ignorance that would cause all kinds of problems.....crashes, fights, shootings etc. They cant see past their own selfishness to realize, this is not all about them, its about all of us.
Here in NJ there are a few areas like that. And like you said there are always the small few who go off and do something stupid to ruin it for the whole group. For the most part, these people in the OP's story seem to be just enjoying a little clique or club type attitude. I don't think they are individually bad, but perhaps they're just coming off that way. If the OP never tried to talk to them or see whats up with them then he is just assuming that they're being jerks. The parking thing I get and agree with. If I went there in one of my Mustangs I wouldn't try to park next to them. But if they truly are acting snobbish then even still that is no reason to hate other Cam5 owners...and it def is not a logical reason to get rid of a Camaro.
