zl1 1le stiffness
For those of you who have or had one how bad is the ride on the street/freeway??? looking at getting one and Ive heard a lot of negatives about it. I want as much info before i take the plunge, there are none in my area that i can get a ride in to see for myself.

*personally* I don't mind it. It is nowhere near as nice as the mag ride is on the street, but I bought this car full well knowing what I was getting into. It's a weekend track car that I hardly drive on the street. Freeway driving isn't so bad, you really notice the hard mounts on slower speed bumps and cracks in the road. I avoid road dots like the plague.
What is your intention of the car? Are you going to be driving it on a regular basis through the streets of SF?

Anybody have a rough comparison to a 5th Gen 2SS with Pfadt lowering springs/sways to a 2018 ZL1 1LE ride? Never messed with the bushings on my 5th Gen, but never had any issues with street use on with the springs and sways. Loved it on the track, especially with some extra HP with a cam and headers.
I will be doing track days and autocross. Work commute is only a few miles and a new Camaro would only be a fair weather driver, not a touring car.

My experience/opinion...Your mileage may vary and my opinion is worth what you paid for it...
I bought it as a track car that I can use for the One Lap of America. The ride is very active. On rough roads it can get pretty bouncy, borderline unpleasant. I recently drove 250 miles up to Dallas to run at MSR-Cresson. It was fine. My gen5 1LE rode WAY better as a comparison. But on track the ZL1 1LE is pretty magical. If it was mostly a daily driver, or only occasionally a track car I would get the “regular” ZL1. It has most of the capability and the magride is so sweet. For me though, the ZL1 1LE was a no brainer and the ride quality a non issue. |

I had a chance to put a few hundred miles on one. What was suggested to me was to drop the tire pressure to about 29psi and it makes all the difference in the world.
I have a 2013 ZL1 and yes the new ZL1 1LE rides stiffer but not enough to make it teeth-jarring or otherwise TOO stiff to drive it on the street. On the other hand, be VERY careful while driving in the rain or on wet roads. With the stock tires, it will hydroplane in a heartbeat. |

It’s stiffer and will punish you at times. Most of the time it’s fine. My wife and I daily drive our Z/28. It’s doable.

Some of the side streets here are pretty rough. I traded a '17 SS 1LE for mine and I would say that if you can get in a car with the magnetic ride control and put it in Track mode, the ZL1 1LE is just a tad stiffer than that.

That all said - if you appreciate what the suspension is giving you, in terms of track performance and general attached-to-the-road "feel"...if you are a racer? It's no problem at all. If you're looking for a daily driver (and I only mention this for others who may be reading)...I strongly suggest getting a standard ZL1. You will be much happier with the Magnetic Ride, and you'll never notice the difference in performance. Way to go! Very nice of you!

![]() In my opinion, it's plenty compliant for the occasional trip around town or for a fun cruise. I'm also used to this sort of suspension, since I put the DSSV-Z/28 setup on my 2014 SS 1LE. But I would not own one as a daily driver, that's all. Which is why there's a Sonic in the garage.
