Has anyone compared the cabin noise between coupe and vert?

I'm considering a new convertible but the wife likes cars that she can enjoy the music as well as the scenery, that said has anyone taken a sound pressure reading in both versions?

the verts are very quiet with the top up, with it down the stereo can still be heard. The scenery is much nicer in the verts as you feel like your in a boat on the lake!

The windscreen makes a big difference in the comfort you are seeking.....

Not sure about models without the Bose sound system, but the Bose system in my 2SS is insane!

With the top up, I can hear some wind noise at highway speeds (speed limit by me is 70 mph), but the speakers easily overcome that without having to turn the volume all the way up.

When the top is down, the speakers get an added boost - don't know how else to describe it, but when the radio is on and I'm putting the top down, as soon as the tonneau cover is in back place over the stored soft top, there's an audible shift in output and the volume is enhanced (deeper bass, clearer highs)...perhaps it's just a jump in volume to compensate for the additional road/wind noise, but whatever it is (and I apologize for not having researched this before responding), to me it's glorious.

The Bose system can get ridiculously loud without any distortion (with top up or down) - I haven't been bold enough to crank it all the way up, but at about 3/4 up it sounds (and feels) like a high-end aftermarket system. Any louder and I think I'll give myself tinnitus.

Hope this info helps with your decision-making process!

(Edit: I realize that I did not acknowledge or answer your specific question about sound pressure readings in coupe vs convertible. I have not.)

My 6th Gen convertible is noticeably quieter than my 5th Gen was. You will need to test drive one to see if it meets your needs.

A drive will do it, as long as I can find a vert.

My noise concern is top up only.

I am a coupe guy all the way. But when I started looking my wife kept saying she liked a convertible. And how much she likes the way they looked. I wasn't even considering one. But lo and behold the show room Car at our local dealer was a black vert 2ss. I test drive both and the vert was not noticeable louder than the coupe. This is the first convertible I have owned. And my buddy has a gen 4 convertible that I have riden in. This thing a million times quieter than his. You have to drive both and decide. But I have no regrets. It's awesome.

Another quick note. I didn't consider tracking my car at the time. Now when I look into tracking it it is harder to find a place that will let you on a track with it because of no roll protection. It is something to consider if you plan to track your car. I have found a few places that would allow it with an additional waiver but tracking is limited unless you mod car with a roll over protection of some type. Just thought I would throw that out there. Good luck.

Ive owned verts before - lebaron and a wrangler - the camaro is tame. Its wonderful! Top up is near as quiet as the coupe and top down is unbelievable, even without the wind screen. Windows up and top down at 70 mph you can have a regular conversation. With the wind screen its quieter than my wifes grand cherokee with the sunroof open. Much quieter.

As for the radio, the book says there is a different sound profile for when the top is down. It is MUCH better - better base, clearer highs, with the top down. Its not just a volume increase, its a different EQ profile. I HATE THAT I CANT SET IT TO THAT WITH THE TOP UP! (Hear me GM - I am yelling at you about it!) Its nice because you know that the top is done cycling when it changes sound profiles, but I really like the way it sounds with the top down.

I’m in Texas and make it a point to drive with the top down every chance I get. My favorite thing to do is blast the radio (roughly 75%) with the top down. Great sound (I’m not an audiophile per se, but I need nice audio). I do have the bose system (that really doesn’t come alive until about 55-60% volume.

It’s not an expensive option and worthwhile imo.
Hope that helps

Found a good supply of used Verts with approx. 10~15k miles and was shocked at how quiet they were. Top up in the vert is almost the same as the coup so I am very happy!

I have owned 17 different convertible cars over the years including two different retractable hardtops. The new Gen6 is the most quiet I've had with the top up !
