Just wanted to update everyone in case they are curious. I ended up going with a different dealer in the end, Community chevrolet in burbank CA in case anybody is curious. I got a pretty much fully loaded 2ss red hot Camaro for about 39.5k. Msrp was 48k. Car came with magnetic ride control, navigation, sunroof, blacked out emblems and rims. Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase and didn't think I would get such a great deal on a lease. I highly recommend anybody looking for a new Camaro to check out this dealership and can personally make a recommendation.

OP rather than get deeper in debt by buying another Camaro that will depreciate rapidly I would hold off until you pay the 5th gen down.

If I were you I would pass. That new Camaro is worth low to mid thirties when you drive it off the lot.

Too late. Enjoy your car OP. Nice color.

Yep too late he leased the car so he rolled his neg equity into the new car so it's a wash when he turns it in.

Yup. The logical side of me said to wait but the emotional side said what the hell, this is the car I want and am willing to pay a little more now. I felt like the level of negative equity wasn't going to even out for another three or four years. It was just a bad idea on my end to finance an older car even if the mileage was very low.

Anuway, thanks everyone. This car is absolutely incredible. I loved my 5th gens and this car blows them out of the water. Much faster, better exhaust note, much higher quality interior, some of the curves remind me a bit like the stingray. I love the car.

No biggie they way I see it if you can afford it do it, I had to do it with my 2014 Impala for a 2016 Traverse (needed more room) it is what it is I did not look back I am sure you will not.

Enjoy the ride the 6th gen is night and day difference over the 5th.

Again congrats

Phew, I thought my 4k was a lot of negative equity... That asking price is pretty good though, about 15% off.

39.5k on a 48k car? Very nice.

The loss is the same either way. You write a bigger check up front when you buy or you write the same check when you sell. Purchase price and trade in value are the same.

Yeah, the negative equity was a killer. Long story short, I had sold a 5th generation Camaro years ago and wanted it back, so I made a bad financial decision financing a 2013. I should have held out a couple of years for a 2017. I figured leasing was the quickest route to alleviating the negative equity while also getting the exact car i wanted and at payments I could afford. It also helps I have a very short commute so I don't have to worry about racking up the miles.

Why do people always trade their car in? You're basically bending over for the dealer twice.

Sell your car privately, get max value and then go buy the car you want while financing the rest if you need to.

Dealership offer on my 2011 Honda? $2500.. $3000 if I traded it in!!! WOOHOO!!

I sold it locally for $6000 a week later cash..

Remember.. the dealership IS the enemy.
