MRT Version 3 Exhaust
I've been looking for an exhaust for my car since I purchased it pretty much, especially since I didn't get the quad NPP exhaust. I also see a lot of people purchasing aftermarket exhaust systems even with the quad NPP exhaust so it would of been a waste of money if I would of requested it to be on my "needs" list anyway. Now after I narrowed my search down to two exhaust systems (Stainless Works and Borla) I run across another exhaust system that sounds pretty awesome. The MRT Version 3 blew me away with the aggressive sound and that's just with a catback (just imagine with long tube headers).
The only issue I am running into with a lot of aftermarket exhaust systems is none of them are providing dyno numbers from stock. Has anyone here decided on the MRT Version 3 exhaust and if so, what are your experiences? Another question is, has anyone found official numbers on the different exhaust systems out there? (Specifically Stainless Works and Borla; others would be appreciated as well) |

If you're hoping to gain power from an axle or cat back system, you're better off looking elsewhere. They're all going to claim numbers but, unless you have some serious work on the car, the stock cat back isn't holding you back much at all. I'd be more concerned with the headers and what kind of power those deliver as a pose to anything else in the exhaust system.

None are providing dyno numbers because they probably realized that there is no power left on the table that a catback or axleback can push out. Get headers if pure power gains are the goal. The stock exhaust is pretty good. There is no power difference between npp and non-npp as far as ive read. Its all just for sound.

Ok...its starting to make more since. When I had my 370, there were all sorts of exhaust systems that made noticeable numbers for the vehicle. Guessing that GM actually made an exhaust system that tops all others (performance wise), they really took their time producing this vehicle. Well, guess I can purchase pretty much anything with our cars; the only thing that people will be looking for is just sound.
Well, with that said, guess I'll be going with the MRT exhaust because it sounds the best to me and does what it says it does. After the purchase of the exhaust, the next step will be the headers. Think I might go all performance before I go with the cosmetic side of the house. |

I never dyno'd mine, but I never noticed any power gain. I'd be surprised to see any significant HP gain without cats/headers changing, but it definitely sounds good!

Alpha1BC, is it an annoying exhaust or is it just right? I had purchased an exhaust when I had my 370 but it became annoying after the 2nd month. The sound wasn't right and I ended up driving my secondary car as my daily

I'd say it's just right. I love the idle, acceleration, and decel sound. There is more noise when driving down the highway since there aren't any mufflers, but the resonator controls the noise to a reasonable level. It's not so intrusive that you can't easily have a conversation or listen to the radio when cruising at highway speeds.

Nice! Hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
V2 has mufflers and V3 does not. They're not big mufflers, but it does have a noticeable impact. The V2 is more in line with the GM Performance exhaust option. It's still a good level of sound and the H-pipe gives it a deeper/throatier note, but the mufflers make it a little quieter and cuts out the most of the popping/burble that you get with the V3.

Last question though...what is the point of getting the catback exhaust if it doesn't add any HP or TQ, why not just do the axel back exhaust?

MRT's catback systems use an H-pipe instead of an X-pipe, and tube diameter is also bumped up to 3". Not sure if it's just the H-pipe or if the tube diameter plays into it (I would assume it does a little), but doing the cat-back is a noticeably deeper/throatier sound over the axle-back. I personally prefer the sound of H-pipes over X-pipes in general, and performance difference is negligible.
