cam only install (need springs)

I'm tossing this around, comp cams AFM compatible can have a .571 lift I assume the stock spring won't work both because of the lift and the RPM / profile of the ramp.

Going by SuperChevy magazine:
http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/eng...-lt1-cam-swap/

Now comp cams only list this spring for "GM-LS" engines.. Either it is out of date or they don't want these being used on the 97 LT1 dunno.

I will need to install these valve springs conical spring 7228-16,

http://www.compperformancegroupstore...&Category_Code=

top shows to be 1.020 OD, .650 ID
bottom of spring 1.290 od, .920 OD.

OK so why does SuperChevy sow the retainer below?

retainer pn 1776-16, this shows to be a DUAL spring retainer (assume it will work) 7 degree 1.530 in spring diameter outside and a .640 inside. Anybody know if this will actually work? 8mm valve stem I assume the stock LT1 valve keepers are 7 degree right, valves stems at 8mm?

I check the comp cams site and sure enough they list this as the correct part for tool steel 1772-16 (it is at the bottom of the spring chart FYI):

http://www.compperformancegroupstore...&Category_Code=

Note it says retainers 1.290 spring diameter... OK that is the bottom of the spring but it ain't the top where the retainer sits. Note the titanium version part number 772-16 shows it for a 1.055" spring

The cheaper molly spring is here:

http://www.compperformancegroupstore...&Category_Code=

$57 list more of my liking, 7 degrees, stock valve stem (assume for LS at 8mm), 1.055 spring.

OK so does the LT1 use 7 degree locks and retainer? assume yes
does the LT1 use LS 8mm valve stem size? assume yes

spring seat pn 4680-16 ,

http://www.compperformancegroupstore...&Category_Code=

OD 1.3" checks out, the conical is 1.290 and fits inside or "on" the seat
ID .520" dunno assume this fits around the guide
spring id .875 yep checks out the conical spring is .920 and fits over

shim kit pn 4752 I show that to be a 1.650 OD kit with a .650 ID, I got plenty of these with .635 ID so I'm sure I can make what I have work.

Please check over my numbers, in-total cam, springs, retainers will be $551 delivered and I should be able to change springs on the car (one of the reasons I'm doing it). Add in advance limiter, new cam bolt, new crank bolt? some gasket sealer... anything else? Oh I need to know the torque specs
Rocker studs,
cam cover
cam bolt
damper bolt
phaser bolts (gotta take that apart).

best but will it go 150,000 miles. Titanium wears out anything it rubs against. I've change many a titanium retainer. Also this is a sub 600 buck cam and springs swap, so really .030 to .040 + lift .571, 1.8" install hieight 1.2 should be the bind height. 110 seat should be enough. Any more is spending money and losing HP / long term reliability.

I wonder if you could get the springs GM uses in the new LT1 Head/cam package since the LT1 hot cam has .577" lift. Does the hot cam have fast ramp rates?

That lpe gt31 cam looks interesting . . .

I would like to know that too. I'm pretty sure they are performance behive comp has behives and something like this would probably do spring only. supports .600 lift to be .571 is safe! A little light on spring seat could shim .015 with the correct spring no retainer or seat is needed.

right too much lift, too fast of a profile or too much spring is going to hose the AFM lifters. How much dunno.
