Not unless you call a car that does 0-60 in 3.7 and beat the snot out of basically everything in Lightning Lap 2016 a "pretender". Take a look at the bottom-right of the chart... and then go lookup the prices and compromises of the few cars in the extreme right column that beat it. Hell that Porsche that beat it by 1/10th of a second has tons of extra go-fast equipment not standard on the model, including fabric straps instead of door handles and stickers instead of actual badges, plus no AC or radio. The Grand Sport had heated/cooled seats, radio, everything.

In reality, there are probably only a handful of people, that are not professional drivers, that could even begin to tap the capabilities of the Z06 on a track. So, why would anyone want to drop an extra $20-$30K for anything other than a proposition in ego feeding?
Agreed - not to mention that the GS is a better track car than a Z06 anyway, since it has the same cooling apparatus as a Z06 (sans supercharger cooling) so it stays very cool; Z06's overheat regularly if taken on track. Also since the GS doesn't have that extra equipment it also weighs less and keeps the lower-profile hood (the Z06's hood is taller).

I really feel that GM should do the same thing with the Camaro, all the ZL1-1LE goodies with the LT1 engine. Sell it for 10-15K less than the z-1LE and call it a Z/28, heck call it whatever you want, it would be the car I'd want.

Camaros have always come with 6 cyl since the beginning of time, but they were grocery getters not performance cars. Today the Grocery getter is the 4 banger. The 6 equates to an old small block v8 and the small block 6.2 now equates to the Big block.

Agreed - a ZL1/1LE LT1 would be sweet!
