6th Gen SS Vs the Gen ZL1
Does the 6th Gen ss out perform or on par with the 5th Gen ZL1?

Yes performs about the same. The ZL1 is rarer, cooler, a tiny bit faster, and gets worse gas milage.

Forgot to mention bigger, heavier, terrible interior etc. all joking aside both are great cars! I considered the 5th gen zl1 before buying my 6th gen. But I just couldn't get over the mass and interior quality of the 5th gen.

I did the same, considered the 5th gen ZL1 and 6th gen 2SS and after driving both decided that the 6th gen was the better car. If you are tracking the cars, you may find otherwise, but for on the street I preferred the 6th Gen and when you look at the published stats, they are pretty close. The interior is nicer on the 6th Gen too in my opinion.

I traded my 13 ZL1 for my current 17 2SS.
I was at Camarofest 2 in Phoenix in 2011 when the ZL1 was unveiled to the public and it was my goal, but thought it would never happen, to own one. My dealer was always asking me to trade in my 10 2SS because my trade in are always very clean like new and I told them find me a 1LE or ZL1 and I will consider it. Finally in Dec 2013 a 13 Blue Ray Metalliac with 5000 miles was traded and I finally owned a ZL1 Supercharged Camaro. Loved the car! Pulled like a freight train. A monster in hiding. You can drive it easy or you can drive it hard and it likes both. Awesome, Awesome car! The first time I saw a 6th Gen I thought it was great looking car but was not ready to give up my Z. Took a SS for a ride one day, it was nice, good power, nice ride. Then a month or so later drove thru the dealer and seen my current 17 2SS. Loved the white, black stripes and black wheels it was a very hard decision but decided to go for it. You an tell it is built on a different platform. Feels lighter, more nimble. Very Fast. Does not pull as hard as the ZL1 but it can certainly keep up and even equal it. When you pass a car with either SS or ZL1 you are if front of them doing 90 before you even realize it. I can't say which is better, both have their great parts. They are two very different cars but also two very similar. |

Short Answer Yes... More Info ![]() I know several people seem to continue to talk about how the new SS is over priced, lets look at the numbers. When you look at the performance of the new SS versus the old ZL1 and Z/28, it's not as bad as some would think when you look at price compared to performance PS: I really like both the GEN5 and GEN6, I don't think you can go wrong with which ever version fits your taste 2015 Z/28 Base Price: $75,000.00 curb weight 3882 lbs. 0-60 = 4.0 seconds 1/4 mile = 12.3 seconds Motor = 7.0 L 505HP 2014 ZL1 Base Price: $59,045.00 curb weight 4051 lbs. 0-60 = 3.9 seconds 1/4 mile = 12.2 seconds Motor = 6.2L 580HP 2017 SS Base Price: $39,000.00 (A8) curb weight 3685 lbs. 0-60 = 4.0 seconds 1/4 mile = 12.3 seconds Motor = 6.2L 455HP

I traded in a blue ray, 13 ZL1 for my 2SS. Smaller, lighter, way better interior, mag ride, A8.... Having taken both drag racing numerous times, I can say that my A8 SS is faster than my old M6 ZL1 (both all stock). Once I drove the SS, I couldn't do the trade fast enough.

Same for me as a few others here. I traded out of a 14 ZL1 to get into. 16 2SS with A8. My ZL1 pulled harder but I don't think it was any faster. I run ide tidal lap times in the 16 2SS and I find the smaller car to be much more enjoyable to drive.
