Key Fob F Up

Went to dinner last night (Friday). When I went to pay the check, my key fob came out with my cash and hit the floor before I could catch it. I picked it up and put it in my jacket pocket. So late this afternoon I was going out and went to remote start the car. Got the fob from my jacket pocket and noticed that the 'Key' insert was missing. Must have popped off when the fob hit the floor. Since I didn't have a key ring attached, I didn't notice. Went back and checked but no one found it and turned it in. Prop got swept up in the trash. I wouldn't have thought a two foot fall would separate it. Oh well, hope the dealer doesn't want my first born for a replacement.

They aren't cheap at the dealership.
I had to replace one for my Equinox and paid 189.00 plus a reprograming fee

Just use your other remote and use that one for backup.

He just lost the key insert. Would just another key insert and cutting cost $189~$300?

I don't think replacing your mini-key should be that much, since you still actually have your fob and it works fine. Check with your dealer.

So I do not have experience with GM push button start systems, my question is that is there a spot to put a key into the ignition? If not, then its simply a dummy key for doors/trunk and would not require programming. If there is a spot in ignition, it will require programming.

Yeah. I'm hoping they can replace just the mini key.

Exactly. Wouldn't think dropping it would eject that key. Another

Mini key only works on door and glovebox. Must have the fob to start car.

To use the mini key one must pry a cover off the driver's side door handle. There is a slot on the bottom to insert the key to aid in prying off the cover. Once the cover is off, there is a lock visible for inserting the key.

There are companies on line that sell key fobs a whole lot cheaper than dealership. The entire fob can be purchased for about $70 and instructions to match to your car. The key will need to be cut, but it can't be that expensive. Just a thought.

All you need is the key that sold separately from the fob. No big deal, dealer can use your existing key to trace-cut a replacement and the parts department should be able to handle it all.
