Anything below 2.0 would be a major jump for me, indicating I'm doing something right. Yes the F1 G3 model has new compounds, specifically designed for the ZL1, or so I've read. They're optimized for road track use. They do get "greasy" with too long a burnout, especially if the track is slick too. I was getting them to stick pretty good so long as I didn't apply too much throttle. I've just got to get the right balance of throttle pressure and clutch release. I'm sure that'll be less of a factor with slicks or DRs. Quote:

I doubt 17's will clear. There's only 1 1/4" clearance between the brembo caliper and rim on the rear. My rotors are much bigger than yours: Front: 15.35" dia, 1.42" thick | Rear: 14.37" dia, 1.1 inches thick. --Cal |

Approx curb weight: 3795 lbs 1 Gal gasoline = 6.183 lbs 3/4 of 19 Gal tank = 14.25 14.25 x 6.183 = 88.10775 3795 - 88 = 3707 I'll let everyone know if I do get it on a scale, though. --Cal Last edited by cwebster; 03-01-2017 at 03:14 AM. Reason: corrected est race weight |

![]() Of course we both know the auto would give you the edge but an M6 should be pretty close to the ZL1, when you take into account how much more inertia the extra 50 HP/tq must overcome. CAI does boost HP, especially on a supercharged motor. Only way to know how much is dyno before and after adding. Side benefit is the satisfying whine. If you say your exhaust upgrade offers no performance gain I'll take your word for it. You need to start taking an entourage with you to the track to help get videos and other little odd jobs. I'd like to see that monster run. --Cal |

^^^^ ya I know right. I've got some great photos from drag racing and I think I have a couple videos buried somewhere. I have vids of the 1 mile and 2 mile..but I do need to grow my entourage. Hopefully you can see it in person. Next time I see your ZL1 i want a ride! Sat in it but want to feel it.
You will have to let me know how that autocross is this weekend. Never been.... I think I'm gonna talk to the airfield manager and start campaigning for Cherry Point to host a runway event...mile racing or beyond. How sweet would that be!

I wish the exhaust offered performance upgrade...trust me. They did a great job on the factory exhaust..I think Chevy did as well on the ZL1...your car sounds phenomenal BTW. I only changed the exhaust because a friend sold it to me cheap and I like the way is sounds.

LOL what in the world. An SS a good fight for a hellcat?
Yeah if its blowing the tires off. Other than that its not even close Article 1. Im running lightweight drag wheels and tires, CAI and ported throttle body. Got smashed 11.7 to 10.8. Stock hellcat with DR. I even treed him slightly. absolutely blew my doors clean off. As far as a supercharher only SS. Yes it can get the job done but you better be proper. And no one is getting blown away. Livernois had their Maggy only a8 SS with DR at the track and it took them all night to run faster than the hellcat. They finally got down to 10.6@129. I was there. As for the zl1. So far it has not proven itself to be faster than the hellcat at all. It should be very close. But im not convinced at all. Im a chevy guy to the core but im calling the truth here. |

I will get GoPro footage from the autocross event and post a thread next week. Autocross is the next best thing to road track racing. It's not wheel-to-wheel racing but it's very technical and feels faster because of the challenging turns and slaloms. If you can help arrange something like that I'm sure they'd be plenty of participants. I'm in for sure! They only time I've seen cars on the runway was at the air shows by pros with plenty of liability insurance, though. --Cal |

I think a STOCK M6 Hellcat will be a good race for Cal's STOCK M6 ZL1. I have talked to a drag racer who has an M6 Cat and he told me his best time was 12.0sec.
A bolt-on A8 Cat with Drag Radials is a different story. I've seen one run as quick as 10.7@127 on a cold day. |

Sorry Cal...seems every time I post on one of your threads it turns into a Camaro vs Hellcat thread...lol. Everybody seems to know that one Hellcat owner who can't drive worth a lick. He must get around.
Back on topic! Can't wait to hear about the autocross. And can't wait to see that car with big ol' meats on the rear. FYI Fayetteville is doing a test and tune this Friday night at 7pm in addition to the usual sunday. Prob a bit much with your autocross plans but thought I'd let you know. Weather is a high of 62. Track prep there is great but may be slicker at night...don't know. Never been at night.

![]() I'll be posting a thread at least by Monday with videos. I may post something early - Sat eve if I'm not totally wiped out. I'll be there from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM Sat and Sun. Half the participants race in the AM session and the rest in PM. When not racing, you do track work (calling in cone hits, reset cones, etc.). Track work is exhausting for me with all my old-man aches and pains so if I draw the afternoon shift I'll be in bed early. Thanks for the notice on the FMP schedule. I saw that on the web site but I thought it might be a mis-print. If I can get the car where I want it today, I may make the trip. I'll text or call you... Changing trans fluid today. One of the few minor gripes I have with the new ZL1 is the sometimes clunky shifts. I can feel the synchros meet and mesh. It's not bad but, compared to the 4-speed Muncie in my previous '70 Nova SS, it's annoying. I'm changing transmission fluid today, from the GM 88861800 / ACDelco 10-4033 (non-synthetic) to Royal Purple Sunchromax. I've read good reviews on this on many car forums and elsewhere. Royal Purple even provides a cross-reference from OEM PN to their recommended comparable product. I've already changed the diff gear oil twice, per the Performance Supplement recommendations. It says nothing about the transmission fluid but I figure those gears and bearings are taking at least the same load as the differential so I'm changing the fluid and replacing it with something known to extend the life and smooth out the shifts. In other news, I've also discovered a reliable vendor that provides 5W-40 motor oil that meets the dexos 2 spec. cited in the Performance Supplement. Amsoil "European Car Formula 5W-40 Improved ESP Synthetic Motor Oil" meets the spec. I bought a case of 4 gallons for $119 [AFL1G-CA ]. There is still no US vendor or web site that sells the 0W-40 dexos 2 oil - the preferred viscosity for racing, though. I'm going to file a complaint with GM/Chevrolet. Their service departments don't even have dexos 2 oil. My last (free) oil change was done with dexos (1) oil. There's a lot more to this story - enough for a separate post. --Cal |
